If you can't hook it to a filter housing, put some kind of filter on the tube. It will suck dirt into the engine.

I know this is for the brakes but what are the side things for? It got sun rotted and the plastic broke on the sides.

It ships from California...

The broken piece it the sight glass on your master cylinder. It is there to let you see how much brake fluid is in your master cylinder. If it is broken it will need replaced or repaired to hold brake fluid.

Does the pinion on the steering come off by any chance? My steering skips when i turn the steering wheel and makes clicking noises.

Yep looks like you can take it apart. Have you turned it back and forth while looking at it to see if there are any missing teeth?

Anyone know how to take off the sight glass from the master cylinder? I cant get the ring off to put the new ones i bought.

It will probably have to be pried out. Try a screwdriver maybe. I've never taken one out before.
