Gy6 150cc Rebuild

I have decided to entirely rebuild a 150cc Gy6 that I have acquired....157 QMJ.....it runs, though it seems weak and leaks oil (pretty much everywhere imaginable, I think). The exhaust rusted off. Time for some fun and learning.

Would it be a good idea to just purchase a big bore 'rebuild kit' (is there a good one?) ??
There are various options online of 'complete' kits which claim to include quality parts for a full rebuild of engine and cvt....but I have no experience with that.

I will budget the engine and cvt in this project at $1000.....what can i do with that much?

Any advice based on experience would be greatly appreciated....

Im pretty sure for that money.. one could buy an whole new engine setup good to go....

I was looking to go that route....
$899 for a 184cc build offered by bdx performance. Talked to someone there and was not sure if I would get it by November.

I can order an engine direct from Thailand, get one in a week or so.

I can order one stock and get it pretty quickly but.....that's not much fun.

Any reputable sellers that you know of??

What kind of chassis are you running this gy6 on? With that kind of money you could go for a fully built predator 212 and a new cvt and produce similar power. You could even potentially get a predator 420 and build that for even more power. From what I can see of pricing on the gy6 as opposed to a predator engine as well you can get more horsepower for less money with a built predator.

Im going to guess off hand its one of those buggies that have that as stock for the power plant...

rebelliondog- I dont know off hand anyone thats sell them, only whats off of the Amazon...
I havent really spent too much time lookinginto them, but know they can be alot or not that much at all...depends on what deal you can find....

Here are some pics of the recipient of whatever I decide to put in it....seems an ‘explorer’, maybe ‘trail master’.
I was looking at replacing the gy6 150cc.....easier to stick with horizontal engine. I can modify it to accept whatever, I suppose.

Talked to them....not happening in the next month. I have a little time on my hands and wanted to get this kart up and moving, repainted, etc.

There are various rebuild (big bore) kits that stay under 1000. I was just wondering how much power can be had from the Gy6, anyway. Perhaps the gy6 is not the best for what I want.....speed on a straightaway but a balance of ability to climb small hills/ditches...

Put a cylinder rebuild kit on it & change the sprocket to a 39 tooth, it will fly and climb hills. You'll have to add chain links though.
