Bought this motor last weekend and found it wouldn't run because it got water in the gas. I cleaned out the tank and carb put it back together with some fresh gas and it fired up on the first pull. It revs ok but off the throttle it starts to surge and dies. Tried adjusting the idle screw on the carb but no help. Any suggestions on what would make it surge? It's almost like it wants to die then the rpms pick back up

How does it run with the choke on? (or partially on) Sounds like its running lean.

If you reused the gasket that goes between the engine and the carby then it's probably leaking and causing your engine to run lean. Get a new gasket or use a sealant, you can usually just smear a small amount of oil or grease the gaskets and they seal again.

Thanks

Hayden

I'll try it with the choke on tomorrow. I think I'm going to buy new gaskets for it and possibly a carb kit and that should hopefully fix my problem. That carb was very nasty from having that watered down gas sitting in it

U cant use gasket sealant on carb inlets as the fuel eats it. Ur jet/s may be dirty. Clean ur carb. U can make a new gasket with cardboard. Just make like 3-4 of them so its nice and thick.

I have some felpro gasket material on a roll I can cut a new gasket if I have to. I cleaned out one of the jets in the carb but I may have missed the other one.

yep you is not gettin enough fuel to burn.

It may still have a tid bit of water in it.

Clean the jets in the bottom of the carb and put a new spark plug in it and try it.

If you can get some 90 percent alcohol and pour some of it in your gas tank.

It will blend with the water and make it sutably burnable.

I pulled the tank off and hosed it out with carb cleaner then blew it out with air so chances of water still being in there are slim to none. I only cleaned 1 jet in the carb so I'm going to pull the carb back off tonight for cleaning round 2

Does anyone here brew their own?

MOM! I'm making moonshine to burn the water out of my gas. Jeez, back off.

yall cant buy 90 percent rubbing alcohol anywhere???

I buy it at the dollar store for like 3 dollars a bottle.:D

You can buy 60 percent at wal-mart but they don't sell the 90 percent.

Ill tell you another thing that will get water out of gas and that is Chemi-tool fuel treatment.

If you blowed the tank out and line out, it probably don't have no more water in it.

Clean the carb good again and are you gettin a good spark?
