So The Franken buggy has been suffering from a lack of juice. The electric starter, Mopar Ignition,a couple of gauges and future driving lights are way beyond the capacity of the on board charging coil. So after studying the problem for several weeks I decided an alternator was my best option. I found a Delco 10Si alternator in the parts pile. After a quick rebuild and a spin up on the lathe, I have a working alternator. There are not a lot of options for mounting so I came up with a plan. Now I have it mocked up in place and it looks like it should work just fine. Any of you web wise A***s errr ahhh I mean wise men see any reason why this won't work?

Wouldn't that be turning the alternator backwards? Shouldn't be an issue for your application,
but under a hot car hood might overheat.

Long as the belt stays put, ive got no complaints.

I concur, the belt may or may not stay on the primary bell.!

It's all about alignment. The alternator pulley has shoulders to help keep thing aligned. I have some shims if needed to move the alt a little.
Pleminary testing looks promising.
Also the fan is bi directional the blades are arranged in a straight radial pattern from the center. the alt itself doesn't care if it goes CCW or CW

I wanted to exercise my gray matter for a minute about that application as to operable or not, but one look at that tangled ferret's fur of wiring gave me an instant case of the cross-eyes, and the wave of dizzy that comes with it. Much luck to you to go with your courage.

What? That wiring is highly organized! I know what every one does, goes and what task it performs. Ain't no stinking circuit boards here!
There are a lot of loose wires laying around just to confuse the uninitiated! January everything gets stripped down to prepare for paint. After that and everything has proven operational, then wires/cables/hoses will all be nicely bundled. Until then i;m not wasting the time, most things get taken apart and changed a few times until we get to the final version. Remember, this is a granpa/grand brat project, so they get to help, and that includes wiring. I want to impart on them a basic knowledge of electrical, mechanics, welding, painting, cussing and hiding from the wimmen!

That's cool! Ive been running a 40$ reman parts store alternator that has a directional fan backwards for 3 years
on my, umm, plow thingy. No problems and usually sits outside. Ill be just fine!

I don't see any issue there :cheers2:

There's a lot going on for sure, but that's not a very good angle. It's much worse looking straight on.

We are only on Rev. 3.6. I'm sure there will be a couple more.

Being that you are using one of the finest things GM ever produced. It will work. The only thing I worry about is the bell holding up to the tension and stress of the belt. I fear it may crack around the center. The alternator will cool just fine by the way.

Got a cheap engraving tool? .............Electric Engraver (harborfreight.com).............. Write your name and all those of your family around the outer circumference of that steel. By the time you're done, it may not feel like much when you rub a finger across it, but the reduced slippage can't be denied. I've done similar with commercial customers on their various equipment, seen it, am convinced of the value in it.

Nah that is badass lmao you built this? This kind of creativity is what makes me want to learn to weld
I encourage you to learn to weld, lts a skill you’ll use all your life both for pleasure and profit.
Most junior colleges offer classes, a great place to start. Then who know where it’ll take ya.
At bare minimum you can build junk like l do.
I build this stuff for my grandsons, but l think l have more fun building than they do driving!

And you call yourself a master hack, I’m ashamed of you. You have a whole garage full of amazing and wonderful tools and can’t figure out a way of attaching a steel or aluminum drive pulley for that alternator? Turn in your hack license right now mister!

Yeah I think that’s what I’m gonna do, I have ideas just no knowledge how to bring em to life, watching all the builds on here makes me anxious to get into it. I’ve seen some really cool stuff here
