I have a GX240 that I am attempting to mount the TAV2 Replacement Torque Converter from here. Has anyone used this converter on a GX240? It seems I have 2 options.
I can mount the unit so that the driven portion sits above the rear oil filler but there is no clearance here (even without the cap) so I would have to cut off at least a 1/4" from the oil filler on the crankcase, then weld it to seal it closed. I have seen other users take this approach but I prefer not to do that kind of modification to the engine itself.
The other option is to mount the unit so that the driven portion sits just below the rear oil filler. There are also clearance issues with this approach. I thought I could solve them by shaving one of the fins off the unit but even after shaving a considerable amount off, I still do not have the clearance I need. I am concerned if I shave any more that it could compromise the structural integrity of the unit. If I mount the plate about .5" off the crankcase using spacers, I can get the clearance I need. The instructions for the TAV2 so that it should be mounted flush though so spacing it off the case seems like it could cause structural issues as well.
Anyone successfully mounted this unit to a GX240? Looking for ideas here.
Thanks,
