I bought the 6.5hp blue clone last week, and ordered a header air filter, #90 carb jet and a torque tube, I m a little leary of removeing the governor yet, has anyone increased there Rpm's by bending the linkage on the carb? and if so how do I do that? any advise and or pictures would help?

Torque tube? Cmon! GX140 emulsion tube ;)

You will not get any power increase with the governor in there. Remove it... It took me 3 days on my first engine. 2nd engine? Less than 10 minutes (honestly).

Anyways, the higher you go, the more the change of a weak plastic gear coming apart and jumping around in your engine.

Dang, why so long on the first try?

Pa and Corby, if you want more RPM's, remove the Governor. It's safer that way. Just make sure you don't try to top it out.

Well... they said I couldn't knock out the arm, as it would hit the crank... and it did, but the crank wasn't in the correct position... so I bought a $30 dremel (battery went bad after 2 month)... and a blade for it... what I didn't know was that the blade was made for wood + soft metals... :(

I suggest not going over 5,000RPM. Your rod, flywheel, and springs would be at stake afterwards.

well, removeing the governor will be a last resort, the governor and the throttle plate work together, when there is a load on the engine, the gov tells the carb to run richer, you take a good chance of burning up your valves or even worse the whole motor with out a gov. I know this isnt a popular statement on a cart forumn, but it is true, unless you like to buy engines often!

Tell that to the few thousand guys at 4cycle running 6,500-6,800 without governors, and on stock rods...

And it does not tell the carburetor to run richer, it tells it to speed it because it is bogging down. You seem to be talking about pneumatic governor ("throttle plate"?)... Either way, I'd like some pics after the gear comes off in your engine.

And trust me, JB weld can't cure that.

2 months of every day rideing and riding hard and still no motor problems yet. keep the oil change and dont go o-cheap-o on the oil and you should be fine. both mine are b&s 5 h.p. and motors are over 8 years old.
