Im thinking on buying a clone gx160 head and giving iy a bit of port and polish ( nothing too crazy). I will be running the thinner gasket as well.
Will i feel the difference?
I've been told it's good for about .5-.8 of a hp. Just don't know if I would feel the extra hp.
The upgrades i have already are governor removal, air filter upgrade and exhaust upgrade.

Thanks
Neil

Howabout a billet con rod before that lets loose... now that the gov is removed....??

You did remove it completely right, not just disconnected it?

I removed it completely.

With the governor removed i'm hitting 5000 there abouts which i am happy with (i have a Cheap Ebay tacho). Keep in mind I'm new to these little engines but I am a car mechanic by trade. I have asked a few people here and on another forum in regards to con rod durability and the general consensus seems to be its high RPMs that seem to kill con rods not compression. I know its still hit and miss due them being cheaply made. Doesn't Box stock racing require you to keep the factory con rod at most tracks?

The track I have at a friends place doesn't really allow for much WOT throttle, valve floating runs. Most of it is tight and twisty turns hence the torque converter.

I'm just looking for a bit more edge without going crazy.

Thanks

Neil

Yes valve float can retard it... With the stock springs. Go stiffer then the conrod disecetion will occure.

Definitely sticking with the stock valve springs

They claim about about a 1hp increase. One reviewer said this. "Noticeable increase in low end power, and no real noticeable difference on the top end."

With a higher performance cam, a compression increase may be required. Likely with an increase in power in higher RPM range.

Thanks for the info.
A noticeable difference sounds good to me.

I think that's a tough question. Higher compression engines are more efficient. The mods you have already made probably require a richer than stock mixture.

If you haven't already changed the jetting, you may need to.

Eliminate the guesswork by taking plug readings.

Thats why I asked after doing the air filter I drilled out the main jet .9mm/.036. .85/.034 was too lean for my liking so I went up to my next available drill size.
With the fuel I was running the plug came up a little rich but still ok.
next time I head out I'm going to try widening the spark plug gap, I found a piece somewhere were they said that can make a difference by adding a fatter spark.

just trying to justify on spending more money to myself. lol

Thanks
