You have GOT to get a camera! Seriously- every kid's got a phone these days- no camera on yours? I'm starting to think it should be a membership requirement! LOL

*face palm* I know , I know. and i find a phone to be VERY anoying. i perfer face to face conversations.less chances for miscommunication.

Yeah- things sure have changed. I think those necks cost me about $30 each, and they really aren't bad! I bought them for two project builds. One was a beaten old Yamaha (project: YamaHell). My thrash-metal buddy beat the living crap out of it for about 15 years. It was horrible when I got it. The neck had a twist (hence the new neck) the body wood was indescribably molested, there was fake blood all in the cavities (from his stage act) the wiring was a rat's nest... Ecch! Anyhow, I started rebuilding it for kicks- just to see if I could. I got all the bodywork done and primed, ready for paint.

sounds like you where a acomplished luthier at one point.

The other project was for my buddy. It's an imported knockoff of a Gibson Explorer. I can't imagine why he wanted me to restomod it, but he has some sort of attachment to it. I got all the bodywork done on that one, and actually cut down the new neck. The new neck shipped as a 24-fret, and the guitar body is scaled for a 22. I must have checked my saw alignment 15 times before cutting the neck- I was so paranoid of screwing up a brand new neck. That project is in mothballs, I can't even look at it, too freaky. Last September, at the tender age of 41, he had a very serious stroke. He's alive, but cannot really speak and is completely paralyzed on the right side of his body. Obviously, guitar playing is not in his near future- probably never again.

At first I thought it would make a nice gift to finish the project ahead of schedule for him, but I am WAAAAAY too afraid of his reaction if I were to present him with it. Think about it- he'll VERY likely never play again- and I'm going to present him with a special guitar? I'm not that brave...

wow, thats a real sticky situation.is there any sort of adaptation, like some sort of automatic strummer? And do you think that he wants to see and hold his newely restormoded guitar? if i coulnt play anymore i would still have 5+ guitars sitin in my room.i dont think ill ever give up buying and selling guitars, but thats just me

Nah- I'm not a luthier. Musician? Yes. Technician? Yes. But AFAIK a luthier is capable of building guitars (I never actually built one). Especially accoustics. I did do all the set up and repairs and other tech stuff for the band.

As for my friend Jim, I'm still stumped. I just keep thinking that if I was in his shoes, I'd be heartbroken to get this guitar knowing I'd never make it sing.

As far as any kind of adaptation/strumming thing? I doubt it. Considering the music he was into, I can't see it as possible. We ain't talking Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Death Metal, Thrash, Punk stuff... You get the idea. Too heavy for me, which is why I never stayed with his band. He got me started, but I hated the music, so it was a learning experience.

Thanks, Eric- I'll follow that up.

Yeah- I really feel for Jim. Not only was he completely paralyzed on the right, but his vocabulary was reduced to about 6 words. Amusingly enough, f**k was one of those words. Good ol' Jim...

VERY hard to observe.

lol, dont be suprised if that guitar ends up there too!

Ive got 5 guitars,a 1977 dean acoustic, dean vendetta xm, cozart double neck sg guitar and a alvarez regent 5209.

to me that vendetta was the best choise for a begineer who is in to more heavy rock styles, its not great on the harmonics but it has a nice GRRRRRRRRRRRR to it.i droped a lesi west mountain of tone in the bridge position so i can still play strait clean music, and then i flip on the distortion for rockin blues!all in all its like a rock version of the fender strat.
