This is a pretty cool site I stumbled on so I figured I'd might as well join up...
I've got both a go kart and a minibike, at this moment neither happen to be running but I plan to change that soon.
I've owned my go kart since I got it for my 13th birthday. (that means I've had it for 11 years... wow!) :arf:
the past 5 or so years have been sporadic as far as toying around with it, since I have a quick tubocharged car I spend most of my time playing with, but I still get the bug and tinker with it sometimes.
Originally it was a simple 2 wheel drive flat frame kart with a briggs 5hp, many parts I found to have come from Azusa including the 5" aluminum mag wheels. Over the years it got a simple roll cage, torq-a verter CVT, upgrade to briggs intek engine with a racing cam, rod, valvesprings and ported heavily. The thing got rather scary with that engine. about 5 years ago the frame was stretched 6 inches to accomodate my 6 feet.
It was driven off & on when I thought about it since then. It's been down for about 2 years, but recently I picked up a robin-subaru 13.5hp OHV engine (404cc!) with electric start. This time I'll be building a deathtrap and will gear it for mind-bending acceleration, and if I can find a 40 series CVT for less than $200 I may take it to the 1/8 mile drag strip that's only 5 minutes from me. I'll be sharing pictures and info soon here on the site if anyone's interested. I'll be welding up my header for it at work tomorrow.
My minibike is an old manco thunderbird that I found in disrepair at a flea market 3 years ago. It needed a new chain, clutch and throttle cable right away, and the 3.5hp tecumseh engine didn't run quite right. Like an idiot i decided to stick my modified 6.5hp (now closer to 10) hp briggs from the kart on it, and it responded with huge wheelies that actually once flipped me totally over and made my rip my hands up on the asphalt.
Upon putting a smaller sprocket on the thing it was still a beast and hard to control. I have rebuilt the 3.5hp tecumseh, removing the governor and porting it. The trouble it had running was with the carburetor, which was shot. I could get it to run very well by putting the briggs intek carb on the stock intake manifold along with the briggs carb spacer to clear the throttle lever. I'm considering finally repainting the frame and putting the tecumseh engine on and leaving it be. If I can find where i put the intake manifold I'll be back in business...
Well I didn't expect to write such a long rabling thread, but there you have the story of my little toys, hope somebody got a kick out of it!
