welcome to the forums!

that is a race kart that has been lengthened and set up to run a LARGE engine.

if you dont have any experience building karts you might want to do something else like get a 125cc shifter kart... because one of those can easily kill you and theres so many things to go wrong. you have to make the frame perfectly straight when you extend it, set up the motor mounts very strong and parallel to the frame, its a lot of work.

check craigslist for race karts... maybe theres one dirt cheap that you can start off of. but the bottom line is you may be making a death machine.

Thanks for the info and for the welcome.
Oh I see I wanted to go all out but not at the cost of my life

I am from Jamaica so i can not use craigslist only ebay because what I have to do is give shipping address of a courier in Miami then they ship it to my country.

So what motor would you recommend?
I bear in mind you recommend 125 cc engine but what about 250cc motor I have them at my disposal

Can you help me out with the frame in terms of finding a good one.
I dont mind reading I but i dont know where to start.

EDIT: I forgot the 250cc engines I have is for my uncles stunt bikes (talk about brain fart)
So even if its 15cc or 50cc i will have to order one online.

When I really think about it my pavement(around my housing scheme) is not really friendly towards low go karts :furious2: but i dot think it would be much of a problem .

oh. what about something all terrain then? do you have acess to a welder? a 250cc engine will pull a small buggy around good. or large off road go kart.

do you like this style?

EDIT: if pics dont work..

Try this. http://tinyurl.com/3sboarx

These buggies are great and can handle a larger engine. The only problem is that no plans are available. They're built entirely by college engineering students.

this looks like itd be better suited for you..... If i were you id make this, and maybe remove the rollcage and add some slicks. Thatd be pretty cool to make it road like. and then you can add like a spoiler in the back to give it that racing look.

That looks like a good choice would making the frame it a little longer be ok?
i am 6 ft 2 and it seems really uncomfortable for someone tall.

So where should I start?

one good thing is that since its on google sketchup you can add measurements, and flip it wichever way you want to see things up closely. http://sketchup.google.com/ heres a free download of the program. You can then open up the program and be able to see the basic frame from the bottom, and add measurements, etc.

First id get the engine running good. and then id go get some steel and start ordering some parts!

well google sketch up has its merits Solidworks and BendPro ftw:thumbsup:

I will be messing around with the measurements later thanks.

the go kart track (the nearest ones) is kinda neglected.

Ain't that the truth! When I was a kid, I visited Barbados and had a few laps around a local track. It featured bumps, dips, potholes, weeds growing out of cracks in the asphalt, and here's the best part-

I rounded a corner on my third lap, and had to smash the brake pedal- standing right in front of me was this massive black and yellow LIZARD! :ack2: Totally caught me off guard, definitely a fond memory for me!

Regarding your build, how are your fabrication skills and access to tools and equipment? I don't know how much it might cost for you to import an existing kart, as compared to building one.

Good as they are, not many of us have the budget for those...unless you have some less than moral ways of acquiring those. ;) I just got AutoCAD 2012.

I would go with a mild off road kart, but equip it with slicks for road use. And a wider wheel base all around.

Cool story

I usually weld truck axles sometimes but I learned to do that in 4 days so that's as far as my skills go but I did do some metal work in high school. I know a very good welder who can do the welding for me.

The first two pictures are what I really want to go with and I am considering two seats because I would love to carry my little nephew, friend, girl, father etc... with me sometime.
Because of the two seats and added weight I was considering a larger motor like the Honda cbr F4 600 motor but thinking if the motor would burn up my tires which i think it wont.

I am trying to do something like this http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQYs64OA2mXj4xHU3K7hsVOI4vvAIh-T8sOCJy-QvTVZ_eTIT-pIA

I want a slightly long and narrow chassis and sort of low.
If its high I wouldnt feel safe driving it without a roll cage.

I can not find a single plan!

My cousin gets all of them for free ,AUto CAD, solid works, Inventor , Pro/E , 3dsmax etc.... all i have to do is renew the license which isn't alot.

What do you think about the engine 600cc to much or to little to move 2 people?

600cc should be more than enough. You could probably get away with less. Obviously, a larger and heavier "buggy" will require more power than a smaller, more streetable kart.

Don't cut any corners with your personal safety. Structural integrity, quality components, and thoughtful design are in order. With 5hp and 20MPH, you can get away with some real junk, and many people do. When you're looking at 60+hp and the associated speeds, one bad fastener selection can end things horribly.

Remember- Nothing kills a good time faster than a trip to the emergency room.

I dont plan on using junk parts but i dont know which material is best for the frame or some plans i can work from.
I probably will have to design it myself but I dont have any thing to work from in terms of basic lay out.
