ok i purchased a piranha about 3 months ago as a total rolling chassis and got an engine with it all for $5000aus

to install the engine our leading hand at work let me use the workshop on saterdays :wai:

which mean i have access to
4 25 to 5 tonne electric cranes
12 mig welders rangeing from 125amp to 600amp
electric pipe bender
and an asorement of other electric tools
free hardware(nuts bolts so on)

so good snag as long as i keep up the 12 hour days:mad2:

anyway iv purchased some front brakes for it from edge

i also got some gauges and a zx9 exhaust for cheap from anoughter member and he threw in a suzuki swift radiator

well i am currently trying to work out how to mount the engine

iv nearly got it in
unlike an industieal motor i have to get every ange perfect otherwize the chain will wear out fast or the motor will not run properly

it sound trivial but other menmbers are discovering the hard way that suzki motors (pariculaly hyabusa gen 1) have pretty rubbish lubrication when the motor doesnt get to lean in the corners

some reasearch went in and the conclusion is they will run an accumilator as a cheap option to a dry sump

hopefully i dont need this as i wont achieve that performance

the only problem is the engine is hard to get
usssulayy u would think bringing it in from the drivers area would be easy, but i have to put a giant cross in that area for a safty measure:worried2:

well i can get in from the bottom (kinda)
but i have to lift it from the exhaust bolts

so the progress continues in 2 days:drool5:

That shop is awesome! I'd love to see those 600amp MIGs working. I thought the 250amp one I used threw some light and heat. I can't imagine what a 600amp would do!

the left one is a 3516 outta a 789B like the truck in the pic but its shot
got a big *** hole in the side of it
blew out one of the crank covers and took alot of crank case with it
the right one is a 988 digger one i think
or it might be komatsu ****

u should see the the trucks when they are complete
then they are huge
that truck was stripped down pretty good

i missed a good pic today of someone air arcing agaist the sun set

air arcing throws some serius sparks

its basiaclly just useing a huge stick welder and turning it up high enough to blow out BIS metal then add high presssure air
thats seems to be the easyest cheapest way to cut it

Thats what gets us at work. You can hide and shield the sparks, its the noise that is incredible. Wearing grade 5 ear muffs and your ears are still ringing. :roflol:

That and when you run up a truck in the workshop, especially before it warms up. You almost have to evacuate.

Makes for good fun thou. ;)

Looks cool Fowler, at least I can see detail on how mine is going to go be put together.
Especially the engine mounts, though your rear end looks different. Man can't wait to get this going.

try being in the engine bay when someone starts it up that scared the hell outta me

anyway more progress done today

got the front mounts done

left one is removable

the right one stays where it is

thats pretty much it

16 hours in and the engine is still seperate :mad2: i blame chain drive :worried2:

the only way to get it to work is to put it on the back of my ute and thats getting old fast

oh and if any beginners want to know why u never weld straight onto pain this is why

this was by tempory engine mount that i ripped off with a 15 inch pry, bar it cam off in two bends of about 15* with little effeot

note how the break it amost perfectly smooth its a bit of a wakeup call

oh and on the topic of the work shop and big trucks

look at this for something differant

as a saftey measure someone desided we should get one truck scaffolded as a test

this is somthing differant
turns out its just a pain in the ***

better to just let someone fall every 4 years then have this crap up :roflol:

After seeing your buggy I noticed that you have a lot of head room, I may have to do same on mine.

the PO put more head room in and legthened it as the bloke who designed this is only about 5ft (iv met him) so every buggy he designs them to suit him

u will note in the pic of it on the back of the ute there is a bar braceing the front most roll bar connection just infront of the sterring wheel

this bar is usfull in a situation where u roll and travel forward at the same time rather than rolling straight over

it stops the roll cage folding in
