I have a go kart with a Greyhound Engine Item #66015 that needs a new belt. Can someone direct me to where I can buy one that fits this specific motor? Or give advice on whether I can use a belt for another motor that may be interchangeable?
Much thanks.

engine.. belt???

that's a honda clone you have .. no belt attached.

Or are you talking about your transmission?

then what you got?
belt clutch?
torque converter?

post pictures.
And post the center to center distance for the two belt pulley you got as well as the pulley diameter.

What he said.....

Pics are definately needed. If you have that center to center distance, you can look here for your belt

I'm just a mom with no knowledge of engines trying to figure this out for my 11yo son, so ..... I'm assuming it's the torque converter belt? I have seen that it's the same as a Honda, so which Honda would that be and how do I get a new belt for it when I have no belt or item # to go from?

I'm sorry.. you need to post pictures and measurements.

everything else is not helpful.

The engine is a Honda GX200 clone, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the belt you need.

The belt is part of the transmission,
either a clutch or a torque converter or something else we haven't thought of yet.
such torque converter or clutch can be mounted to any other engine of the same size..

So the engine is not a good call on figuring what belt you need.

here's the HF greyhound manual for your engine.. you can clearly see: no belt ;)
http://images.harborfreight.com/manuals/66000-66999/66015.pdf

Even if you KNOW that you have a Torque converter we need to know the make and model (they use different type of belts)
And the center to center distance of the two pulleys (driver and driven)
since every type of belt comes in several lengths

So again:
post pictures and the most accurate measurements you're capable of (every 1/16th counts)

There's nothing wrong in not knowing what type you have,
we are here to provide all the necessary information and help we can.
But we cannot just point you to any belt and hope the best;
those belts are expensive and if it's the wrong one, your son is blaming you, and you're going to blame us ;)

So we need to be sure.

Also fill out the profile for where you are a member might be able to point you to a local shop that might be able to help measure for the proper belt.

If it is the belt for the torque convertor that you need if you can get a picture of both pulleys from the front with a tape measure or a ruler that will show the distance from the center of the 2 pulleys and than a picture of the engine , on from the top and dont forget to get one of the whole cart that is the ones we like the best, it may not have anything to do with fixing the issue we just like looking at go karts - hehe

I will upload some more photos with measurements as well. Thanks so much for sticking with this thread and replying to me. My son so wants this Go Kart fixed!
I did have a friend come look at it and he told me the reason the belts I have been getting are getting chewed up is that the pulleys are off center and not aligned properly. He's going to get them in alignment, I just need to get the proper belt!
I am located in Cincinnati, OH, so whether I need to go to a store or order online if you can point me in the right direction as to what exact belt it needs and where to get it that would be SO much appreciated.

I measured and it is 6-7/8 inches from the exact center of one pulley to the center of the other. I would estimate it at 7 inches, but to be exact it's 6-7/8 inches.
The name on it is Comet.

I dont blame him for wanting to ride that thing is cool, the guys will chime in on belt siz as i dont realy know squat about the belts if the pulleys are out of alignment tat can be a problem it is hard to see with the belt cover on.

Another reason it could be chewing belts is those rear tyres are huge! Large tyres affect the gearing, which is directly connected to the TAV. If the gearing (between the driven shaft sprocket & the axle sprocket) is not appropriate for those big tyres, it will keep chewing belts like there's no tomorrow...

As Tony (Fabroman said) those tires are HUUUGE!, so the kart needs to be geared extremely low (count the teeth on the two sprockets) ratio should be 8:1 (or better 9:1) but it'll be more like 6:1 if you're lucky.

Anyways
Please check that the green spring IN the driven pulley is still intact;
it looks broken on the picture somehow, but that might be just the angle.

if it's not, then get a new one here:
http://gokartsupply.com/asymapp.htm
(scroll down to find it)
from your tape ruler I read 6-15/16"
that'd be belt 5959 you can find it here:
http://www.gokartsupply.com/tcbelts.htm

I see no chain at all on the kart, which again might be only the angle of the pics :D

So, before you install the belt please count the teeth on both sprockets (or let your friend do that for you while he's at it ;)),
you see that the belt isn't exactly cheap, so you don't want to ruin it right away.

I assume the small one will have 12 Teeth.. and the larger one maybe 72,
you need more like 96 or 108 Teeth on the axle sprocket to make it work.

Awesome awesome awesome!!! Thank you for all the information and links. I will pass on everything you suggested to my mechanic friend and hopefully he'll get it working soon. I'll post a pic of my son on it once it's working. You've helped so much. Much appreciated!
