Hi everyone. I'm one of those middle aged guy's that never had a kart as a kid... and now that I'm fast approaching 50, I'd like to build one for me and my wife. I've read a few threads on here and realize there is a wealth of knowledge in here. I'm an engineer who loves to work on old chevy's (Vette's, Z28's), but I've never scratch built anything. Wish me luck!

Welcome Tinker, you are certainly in the right place. So, Are you planning on building 1 two seater or two single seaters for you and your wife? Once you get started, be sure to start a thread of your project (s). Good luck

Thanks for the warm welcome Silvergrizz. It's good to see I'm not the only guy here with locks of silver! I'm thinking of building a 2-seater for use on our ranch. I have a cad sketch of the side profile up at: http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=8676

I just looked at your profile and see that we share more than the silver mane... my name is Bob too.

Welcome. New here myself. But it seems like all the kids seem to know their stuff and they have been a lot of help to me so far. And so have the old f**ts like myself. I saw your buggy thread, I would agree with the one who recommended the bike engine. I'll bet an old Honda Ascot engine would be perfect. Very smooth but torquy little <500 single or v-twin depending on the year.

Thanks for the welcome CKC & Dad. I agree, one's age makes no difference. I'm sure there are guys on here that are younger than my shorts that have forgotten more than I know about small engines.

I remember those old Honda Ascots. I like the idea of a bike engine on the buggy, but I'll have to talk my wife into accepting shifting. She wants to be able to drive too.

What about a polaris sportsman drivetrain. It has a transfer case with 2 FWDS and a reverse and a CV transmission that works much like a comet Torque converter.

That would work nicely. Do you have one for sale? I'm down in the Alamo City at least once a month...

Welcome to the forums man, always good to see more people from Texas.

Thanks for the warm welcome Blazkowiez! :cheers2: I agree - good to see another Texan on here. I've spent several hours enjoying some good reads and project log pics. I also just checked out your website... nice.

Funny, my wife thinks I've got a touch of middle age crazy with all of this fun buggy stuff. Maybe so??? :biggrin5:
