Hello yall.
I'm an Industrial Design student, whose latest project got him into the go karting world.
My experience with these fun rockets is limited to an indoor/outdoor electric go kart track, called Volta Racing. Pretty neat stuff in my opinion. A friend of mine wanted to celebrate his birthday there, and I was hooked from the beginning.
Coincidentally, a week prior to that fateful day we were given our ID class project: a fun vehicle. Just like that. No strings attached, no specific users, no specific surface/terrain/location for it to be used in, no limits as to powering it, no limits at all. This is highly unusual in my career, but I am not complaining, not one bit. Being a bit of a petrolhead myself, I immediately thought of something engine powered, with a rugged/off-roadish feel to it. A month later, I have some 3D models, an engine, some spare parts and a lot of excitement for the possible outcome. More to that in the appropriate section, of course.
I have my fair wrenching knowledge (father used to have a 90's nissan van, he got me to help with it's maintenance, short of an engine rebuild we took pretty much everything apart), know my electronics (went to a high school were you also got a technician's degree, mine's on electronic and communications), electricity, masonry, plumbing and the like. Father wanted kids that could fare for themselves, and I will be forever grateful. To be precise, I don't fear getting dirty when the time comes. I also know welding/general metalwork/general woodwork/general fabrication, paint and finishing thanks to my career.
I am by no means an expert, and will ask questions that some might find dumb, but better be safe than sorry, right?
My hobbies are pretty much reading, music, cooking/eating, driving, going out, and last but not least, taking apart things, learning how they work, and putting them back together, as well as modifying and inventing stuff.
I'll try and help whenever it's within my capabilities, but social life + school + work + my lovely dog take a big chunk of my life, so I might not be around always.
