Grand Daddy Build - Advice on Modifications?

I own a welding/fab shop, we're a little slow right now, so I figured I give some of the guys in the shop a fun project to do instead of sending them home. I've been looking through the plans, and there's a few parts of the design that seem... sketchy. I did a search through the site and see LOTS of posts on this type of build, but I'm wondering if there have been any recurring issues/modifications that people have done that would be good for me to know before I start? Like different tires, shocks, etc. I've seen a few mentions of the tie rods being way too flimsy at only 1/4", so I was planning on making those larger, but any other advice? I'd like to have all the parts ordered and on hand before we start.

For an adult to drive........you really need to extend the length of the frame about 12 inches.

Yeah, I'm new to the Karting world, and just learned about this kart type. It looks pretty cramped, especially for more of an offroad type where you will be thrown around a bit. Their videos on the website look like the guys knees are into the steering wheel. That seems acceptable for those asphalt racing karts, but not for offroading.

Good to know, I didn't even bother to double check the overall size! Is there any downside to bumping it up to 1-1/2" square tubing other than added weight? I was planning on using a 420cc engine and thinking of maybe building a rear back bench seat/storage area to move my family of 5 around the neighborhood (3 young children) at low speed.

What about the main drive sprocket? Any thoughts on using a double chain sprocket? I see that used on most commercially made go karts and have had issues with the chain coming off on some of my previous builds. Also 60T is a good ratio?

They make the sprockets that are two pieces and easy to change out. If you are starting from scratch you may want to check that system out. 60T seems to be highly common but it may be something you want to experiment with due to your riding style/location. Just my thoughts, I dont have experience with those easy change sprockets, just saw them.
