This is my first time taking out the governor and im a little concerned. I bought a brand new engine from northern tool (powerhouse 208cc) and i feel like im destroying it. Have any of you felt like this taking out the governor for the first time?? I have some problems such as taking the gear off and im nervous because my cam and push rods fell out. I put them back in and i think it works but im just nervous. Any tips would be great!

Make sure the timing marks on the cam and crank gears are aligned. Also, take the rocker cover off and make sure the rockers are seated properly on the valve stems and pushrods. They could have slipped out of place with the lifters out.

Normally for the younger and less experienced crowd, I suggest using the engine bone stock until such time as the warranty expires. That way, any problems with the engine hopefully will have been identified, you're not "destroying a new engine", and you're not voiding your warranty. If you foul it up afterwards, you'd be on your own anyhow.

Well, if you've cut the arm... In for a penny, in for a pound. work carefully and remember the cardinal rule. Once it's all back together and running, do not free-rev it. (revving up high without a load).

I don't mind helping. In the meantime, have a good look around, there's lots of threads on this topic. Have you got a torque wrench?

I think tomorrow I'll be be making a new crankcase gasket for my own clone. That reminds me- have you got a new gasket?

Unless you ripped it, but its best to replace. Once you get it back together make sure the engine turns over freely (by hand) as in no parts are hitting each other which are not suppose to and just look at the various threads on here about governor removal.

I bought a brand new engine from northern tool (powerhouse 208cc)

Just a heads up: The OP's engine isnt the same as the GX200 or Jiang Dong/Lifan 6.5hp clones we're used to working with.

I've been researching and am fairly certain the Powerhorse 208cc. engines are manufactured by Liquid Combustion Technology, they claim "98% of its parts are not interchangeable with competing products" (clones)
Quote from here : http://www.port-of-charleston.com/s...t_charleston/2007MayJune/PortChs_MJ07_LCT.pdf

These engines larger 208cc. displacement are not legal for most forms of clone-engine kart racing, so I wasn't able to find any info from kart racing sites or anywhere else on the net about Governor removal on one of these.

I did run across a report that GX200/6.5hp clone cams do not interchange, and that Parsons Racing Engines was manufacturing some racing parts to fit these 208cc engines. (but there's no info about this on they're site)

Anyways, my whole point here was just to warn you guys that the Governor removal procedure might not be the same for the Op's engine as a clone.

I'll be very interested in how this turns out.

Thanks for the hot catch Ander- I assumed (oops) that they'd be the same. I would think that the procedure would be similar enough, though. Crack open the box, remove the unwanted bits, stitch it up, rig a new throttle.
