Yep its a 406cc. G400 flathead from the 70's/80's before the GX-series were even made. My original governor linkage arm just simply clamped around the shaft exiting the engine.

All I did was take that linkage rod off and left the governor shaft as-is, but I remember there seemed to be an internal spring holding my governor shaft in place. I couldn't just turn it (or push it in) by hand from the outside.

I really should open this engine up and completely eliminate the governor just in case... I kept thinking I'd do it after I found a race cam/valve springs to fit it, but sadly there's no (direct-fit) race parts available. I did find out my cam gear is nylon and probably wouldnt handle the additional stress of stronger valve springs and/or having my cam re-ground.

Its an awesome motor that develops more torque than a GX390.

I have a Honda G200, I removed all the governor linkages, the governor is still in there. I've revved it till the valves float many times, no problems as far as I know. G series engines are great, mine is the most temperamental engine I've ever had though. Boy does that engine have some weird problems. :worried2:

Who dares me to sign up to that minibike forum with my 10'000+RPM Victa powered mini quad? Complete with original flywheel and rod. :devil2:

Thanks

Hayden

Ok, I dare ya ;)

Yeah I've ran across a few other guys here on diy reporting bizarre g200 symtoms too. But lots of older kart racers still love that engine and very successfully raced them for years. You could probably still find speed parts for your g200, they did a lot of cool mods to-em but they were reported to of wound out really tight with just a header, re-jet and de-govern.

I think some guy here on diy had pics/info of his G300 here awhile back, did you catch that thread?
