Governor Question

Hey, I am thinking about removing the governor on my HF 6.5hp. I am wondering is it really worth doing? Because i notice that the governor will kick in so quick when i am trying to hit top speeds. I can tell the engine wants to keep going but the governor is stopping it. I am thinking about removing it but i am wondering is it a good idea to remove it or just leave it on?

if you know what your doing and dont rush into it. The only reason to remove the governor is to allow the engine to get more revs. The purpose of the governor is to allow more fuel into the chamber when the engine comes under pressure, eg on a lawnmower, if you cut into a bigger and tougher lump of grass.

you might want to get 18lb value springs, cuz they will float round 5000rpms.

Yeah i know what i am doing, I watch a few videos of how to do it
Yeah i will eventually get a 18lb value spring.

If i do is it is possible that i can over rev my engine and it might blow up? Or is that not possible?

If under a load...next to impossible to "blow up" under any conditions.

I removed the governor.
I could not get the little pin that is holding the gear in place off But i removed everything else and i broke the gear off with my Vice grips. So the gear is not touching no other gears and I removed the governor parts.. Will this be fine?

When working with engines never use force, i have seen people with no experience trying to change conrods and forcing the gudgeon pin out, only to discover that they have taken a good piece of the skirt with them also.

Your engine is not going to blow up as russ said, the worse thing that can happen is that you throw the rod (con rod comes through the cylinder wall from excessive rpm) but i doubt your kart will do that.

Ohh, But will it be fine though sense i got the gear out well the teeth part out and everything out. There is still a little piece of the gear thats on the rod but it is not touching nothing because i could not get that a little clip out thats holding the gear in place..

Will i be fine by leaving the little piece in?

if so get it out
if not, make sure it is secure and cannot come off, if it does it will stuff things up
your best bet is to get it out
it is better to get a job properly

just to be safe i would take it out, last thing you want is it to brake off and get mixed in with the oil

No the gear is not spinning i took of the teeth of the gear so basically broken gear is just sitting there not touching nothing. Yea the piece is secured in still by the clip though. I am going to take my air compressor and blow the inside out so i can make sure there is no extra shavings....

What is the best way to remove the clip out? Because that is the only problem i am having is getting under the clip to remove it.

yes but even if its not touching anything, you may have cracked it, just a small crack and it may spread and eventually brake off.

Did you read the guide i linked you.
A thin flathead screwdriver can be used to pry the clip off.

Oh alright. I will remove the clip today then. I know i did not crack the case because i was not doing hammering hard. But i am going to try to pry the clip off and use my needle noise to get it up
