Governers

hi y'all, just took the governer off my 212 predator and was just wondering what i should do to make the engine last as long as possible. Oil grade/type? heavier duty internals? lighten up on the throttle? anything is helpful

if you didnt... remove the oil sensor unit inside... thatll give ya alil more oil reserve, thats always handy for longevity of an engine... be sure to plug up the wire hole aswell as the governor arm hole...being in CT and winter comming... id drop 10W30 in instead of 10W40... billet parts always ensure strength... but come at a cost...

I remove governors from all my engine and I've only blown 1 up, that was due to low oil, not the governor's fault. One important thing to keep in mind is to limit how long you stay "wide open". Excessive time spent in full throttle can damage an engine whose governor has been removed.

To make it last as long as possible, get a honda gx200 and leave it stock

Realistically speaking (and assuming it doesn't have a manufacturing defect) these engines are designed to last over 1000 hours between rebuilds. It's incredibly rare to see one break down from general wear and tear rather than user error (bad mods, no air filter, bad oil, etc).

For the predator 212, I believe they use incredibly cheap foam filters... my first priority would be sourcing a replacement if possible.

Ok thanks! regarding the filter, thats my next upgrade i think. Im taking a metalshop class this year, and Im welding up an air scoop out of sheet metal that fits right on the stock air box. Idk how much of a difference it will make, bu at the very least it'll look cool

Uhhh, don't do that...... It's gonna do nothing for you......
If you're taking metal shop, make a new filter mount and get a pod type filter. Then change you're exhaust. Just those 2 little things will put you in the 7.5-8 hp range. Then you can tweak your carb and push the 8.5-9.5 hp range, depending on how far you go.....
I made a simple adapter for a filter. I made it out of a really hard plastic. Half-breeder is running one of my adaptors on his kart. Fabroman made a nice model out of aluminum (i think, I know it's metal..... ) and looks real sharp..... I'll post links to them in a little bit, when I have time to track em down.....

hmm ok right now im running with a filter i made by cutting up an old car air filter that fits the stock air box without the cap (pic below). it seems to work alot better than it did with the old foam filter, especially now that ive upgraded the jet to a 0.036 bore. i also have an even larger jet (0.037), so i was thinking once i get the scoop on and the carb was getting more air, i could put the big jet in.

Sounds a good idea.

Did you seal the all he gap to force the air to pass thru the filtering material? If not, non wanted particules are entering into the engine. If so, could you explain how you did it?

oh i didnt think about that. i would assume i could probobly just line the outside edges with some duck tape though. i also finished up the scoop today! its just sheet metal cut to shape and spot welded together. here it is
