I cannot understand why you cannot just disconnect the govenor shaft from any of the throttle mechanism instead of having to remove completely. What difference does it make if it is left inside and not connected to anything?
Because of the way the governor internals are designed and operate, there are many of us that believe that over-revving these internals could cause them to interfere with the engine's reciprocating assembly, and/or fly off entirely. Either case has the potential to cause some pretty serious damage.
