The replacement for my ex21.... the ex27 will get exhaust, timing and gov mods.... thats about it.
I bought it on ebay for only 300 bucks... they claim theyre brand new and the rust is just from humidity. The exhaust is perfectly clean and theres not a scratch on it so it's looking good.

Alternator?????

And is it just me or do you think its weird the rust stopped on the case. Theres not a scratch on it and not 1 sign of it ever being run before...but I just thought it was sorta weird.

9 hp, nice. That kinda looks like aluminum (doesn't rust) so I was thinking It might just be some type of packing foam residue or meyby adhesive over-spray. Does the PTO shaft show any signs of rust?

And the shaft looks fine... no rust at all. If it isnt new theyd have to spend a whole lot of time replacing all of those parts to look new. They have been up for a few months and they just keep selling more!

I agree, i reckon its packing foam stuck to it or glue or something. Doesnt look like rust, aluminium does rust but not like that, it just has a thin film of white powdery stuff over it when it rusts to protect it.

It looks good on the inside. I took the exhaust off and you can clearly see the valve isnt dirty etc.

I haven't seen many mods for these engines. Where are you going to get exhaust for it?

Ok thanks! I though it was an alternator! lol And my exhaust is from roberston torque tubes.. I had it on my old one and it fits on this one.

oh yeah them two wires are for lights!

I just bought a 7Hp robin. The 2 yellow wires on mine are for a low oil light. It looks like yours are comming off a rectifier. The rectifiers are used for 15 and 40 watt alternators. 15w is only like 1.5amps enough to charge a battery. The 40 is only 3.3 still not enough. Mine only puts out the 15watt:furious2: I wish I would have researched more. What i really wanted was the 200watt. That engine also comes with a regulator. It would put out 16+ amps. Plenty for lights. Now I have to get a flywheel, regulator and stator $300 bucks later.:roflol:

But if you hook the 15 watt alt. up to like a motorcycle battery do you think that would work? Ive got a spare one laying around im thinking of using on it if that doesnt give me enough light.

Yes it will. I hooked up the lights I want to use to a spare lawn tractor battery just before for a test. I had it on trickle charge for a couple of days so the volts were at 12.09. The lights I'm using are (2) 55 watt fog lights. I hooked it up to the battery with a VOM and watched to see how the voltage would drop. In 15 min it went down to 11.9. This is with no charging from an engine. I'm not sure what king of amperage the battery has also. The motorcycle battery I got has and amperage of 14 so I should last a little while.

I just like doing things right. The 200w stator puts enough to run 4 lights and almost not even touch a battery.

...why did I do that?

I have an EX21 with alternator. The 2-alternator wires are blue. The output is unregulated AC. If you wnat to run lights, you need a regulator. If you want lights and to charge a battery, you need a regulator / rectifier. The 200 watt output is still a bit weak. You can power one light, but not two.

I currently have a regulator hooked up. I bought a Spiderbox regulator / rectifier off of ebay cheap, and will figure out how to hook it up. I think that I know how, but I am going to wait until I actually hook it up and get it working before I post it. I want to use a battery to get more lights, and will use the alternator to charge it. Why is 200watts not enough? 200w puts out 16.6 amps. (2) 55watt bulbs need 9.1 amps to run. 200w are plenty for 2. The engine I have has a rectifier and a 15watt charging system. Does yours have electric start? The electric starts come with it. The blue wires do go to the rectifier on mine. The regulator is only used on 200w units. It's not needed on the 15w and 40w stators. How does the spiderbox setup work with the Robin?

I have not hooked it up yet so I can't say. I am speaking from observation, on the lights, it would not power 2 lights. I do not have an electric start.

I=P/E

I=200w/12.4volts

I=16+ Amps

You would think that it would be enough.

oh yeah them two wires are for lights!

Hey guys I just ran across this post and its been very helpfull... Im dealing with a no spark issue on a ex27 engine... Didnt relize those two yellow wires were just for charging to run lights... So the motor should run without those connected to anything? My 2 wires coming out the back are orange not yellow... Does that matter? Anyone now what the specs should be or how to test the coil , stator or flywhel magnets and pickup so I can figure which is the cause of my failer... Heres a pic of my engine...
