Hello all!
First and foremost, I have to say that I am a complete newbie to almost everything mechanical and engine related. But I just got my first Kart and Im really excited to get started :)

I need some help figuring out what the heck I even have on my hands. Me and my son were passing an estate sale the other day and saw this "gem" and I talked them down to $150. The engine runs but not sure if it drives lol. The breaks feel like they are locked up and with the state it looks, I wouldn't trust driving it to the end of my driveway.

The only thing I know is it has a Tecumseh 10 HP engine, #HM100. Is this for off road, semi off road? Feels like its missing some parts to the frame as well, maybe a roll cage or something?

Figured this would be a good way to learn and a good project for me and my son this summer! Hope you guys and gals can help me

Matt

Welcome to the forum. That is a sweat kart you have there. What type of clutch do you have? Is it a torque converter or a centrifugal clutch. The reason why I ask is because those rear tyres are pretty big, and you might have gearing problems (ie geared too high).

Count the teeth on the axle sprocket and the clutch sprocket and post here. Get the tyre diameter as well and post that. We can then see if you need to regear or whatever. Post some pictures of the engine from the other side too, so that we can see the drivetrain. Post some pics of the brakes and their linkages as well. This will help us with the brake problem

Thanks

Looks like a disc brake setup can't see the clutch. I'm gonna say 20-22 inch tires on back and 13-15 on front. NO its not offroad but someone has driven it as such. with proper clutching it can be used as such.

That is a sweet kart, wish my first started with that much potential. While it might not be intended for off road it would be capable as long as the gearing is right and you dont do severe stuff but for a good dirt trail with light bumps that could be a blassssst .

Ps - when i9 got my daughters cart i stripped it to bare frame just so i could paint it and was glad i did i found so many hokey things that couild have been disaster with my kid driving.

Have fun i have been here a short time as well but these guys are all very helpful.

Well the steering wheel and color suggest Manco- but it's not a model I've seen. What do the stickers say?

It either needs a rollcage or the seatbelts removed. .....

Now that is a real find. It originally had:

Comet 40 series torque converter.
54 tooth axle sprocket
9 tooth jackshaft sprocket
hex or round axle
single or dual 8" disc brakes
22" rear tires
145/7-6 front tires

Wow, you guys are awesome already!

Ill get more pictures and as much of the info as I can. Off the top of my head the rear tiers did say 22, it does have rear disc breaks, and I couldn't find a manufacture sticker or stamp on the frame my first look over. This thing has sat outside in the Arizona sun for quite some time, most of the stickers are faded are disintegrating.

I dont have big plans to take it off road, but a light dirt track out here in the desert would be fun from time to time.

Ill post up more pics and info later.

Thank you!

PS: Should I make a project thread instead of doing all this here?

Welcome! Yep, start a build/rebuild thread. That way it's all in one place for future searching.... Nice kart, but more importantly, great score!!
