Hey fella I have been readin on here for a while and have a few questions, I'm planning to build a small kart for my son this summer or next fall and I'm just doing some homework before I get started. I may build single A arm suspension on hos kart and if I do how do I attatch these to the frame so that the swing smoothly? I would assume some type of bushing/bearing would be best I'm just looking for more details/ pictures... Same question as it applies to the swing arm? Same answer?

Also if home made how is your steering shaft held in place/ where can you get bushings for the steering shaft?

That's all I can think of to start with I'm sure I will come up with more!

Thanks everyone

if you don't have a lathe, and want to go the making it your own on the steering shaft. you could learn how to pour babbitt bearings.. I've done it a few times. babbitt melts around 750-800 degree's F. its an old school way of doing things. and they use to use these bearings in train parts... and because the steering shaft isn't under a lot of load, they should last the karts life.

or you could just go down to the hardware store, or metal yard, buy some bronze bushings with the right OD. get a drill bit/drill press and cut out the ID to the size..

or buy the stuff online. what ever. lol! I enjoy building my own stuff.

Thanks guys!

I'm more wondering how does the a arm attatch to the frame I realize that this is probably kindergarten stuff to some of you but I can't seem to figure it out particularly if I make the A arms and frame out of 1x1 square tubing

You use heim ends on the A arms OR you use a rubber encased bushing (like on cars) ,one on each end of the cross bar, where the bolt goes through it and the tabs that are attached to the frame. Does that help? I'll find a pic.....
