A friend of mine has a 130 Amp stick welder which is only good for up to 4mm (1/8" = 3.2mm) so I'm guessing this would be even less. It would be ok for light fab but you'd have to call in reinforcements for the heavy stuff.

On the other hand, I have a 130amp gas/gasless MIG That's good up to 1/4" (6.5mm). Yes, I favour MIG over arc, IMO MIG is easier to use & you get a better result but it's your choice &, yes, MIG are more expensive.

See if you can find friends etc who have welders (MIG & arc) & see what you're more comfortable with

I am not a professional welder but I prefer stick although MIG is easier and looks better from the serface I find most of the welds I make have better penetration and strength however there is something to be said about DC vs AC also if you prepair the metal properly you could potentialy weld metal thay is way thicker than the welder is meant to cover though you need to make multiple passes in some cases

Mig is much easier to pick up but you have much more control over a stick welder. Mig is just click and go while stick requires a bit more practice/skill/finesse to do properly. As for the welder you posted it will be fine for almost anything you would need for a normal yard kart. Just keep in mind that some types of electrodes, such as 7018 will be very hard to start. I find that 7018's wont start under 150 amps, although i might have just got a bad batch. 6011's give great penetration while 6013's give decent welds but they look great and they both have the benefit of starting very easily with lower current.
