most of the tools i buy are mastercraft. most of the stuff like wrenches, sockets, ratchets an screw drivers are suppose to have a lifetime warranty but i have not broke one yet. most of the electric power tools have a about a 3 year warranty on them which seem good to me. the only person that i know of that ever had to use that warranty on a grinder was the metal shop teacher. having 3 different classes a day abusing the tools can kill them quick. i usually buy my tools when they are on sale and always keep receipt. i think the next big investment i need to make will be on a tool box to fit all the tool i have already acquired. my tool box is full and my work area has lots of tools that are still brand new.

ya u get bolts that big but when they are done the 2000ft lb a spanner is no good

big spanners are for hose fittings

that 2 1/2 in is good for some air line fittings on haul trucks

Thats where homemade spanner torque increaser comes in handy. :D

Landuse - It was cheaper to buy the whole set than it was to buy them individually. Cant remember what it all cost.

no thats torque multipler's
the ones u stuick on the end of the torque wrench and it does as it says
but as u pull on it it loads up so if it pops off u get a fist sized chuck coming at your head with 2000fllb of force

hi torqus are run via poter power and are far easier to comtrol and can atain far higher torque (3500ft lb ^)
they can explode as they run up to 10,000psi so maybe thats what killed the guy

they are not banned in aus just on most sites

Yea, I know what they are, don't know why I typed high torque? I typed out a post then something crashed and I had to do it again..

We use 'em with just 2-3ft snap-on ratchets. Our biggest Cat multiplier does about 4000ft/lbs if I remember correctly it has 40:1 ratio. Gets pretty hairy at those torques.

Here is one I just found. Not the one i'm thinking of thou.

all of the tools mentioned are great and most of the simply differ by opinion, looks, and feel. If you are wanting tools for a gokart, i.e. not alot of really heavy duty stuff. you really just need a good ratchet set, some screwdrivers, a good set of open end wrenches, needle nose and your general pliers, maybe a vice or two, wire cutters and you should be set. My personal favorite place for simple, cheap (but very decent) tools is harbor freight [you tell the difference between their really crappy stuff and their pretty good stuff just by looking at it. and if it breaks just send it back for either you money or a replacement if you forgot the receipt]. You can always find a great deal on your general tools but also the once or twice time use tools. Just subscribe to their mailing or email list and keep an eye out for coupons of a useful tool. Also the lowes and home depo brand tools, kobalt and husky, are very good quality (although i've always found kobalt a little better).

But yeah, if you have those tools I mentioned at the start then you should be able to make it by fine, at least I have, and I rebuilt an engine with nothing more. Then you can always splurge here and there on nifty little, or big, tools you need.

:iagree:Max torque/ ultimate strength you're right; where you see a lot of them ( without the max/yield strength app.) is large precision machine tools. How they are used is beyond the scope of this discusion. All of my stuff over 2" is from NAPA Auto and True Value hdwr.. Banged up, but still ready.

it would be hard to break 1 1/2 and up

i think iv always had an extender on the spanner or hit it with a hammer when ever i use them

rusty thats why we cant use them in our work shop
hi torques still fly off but u aint pulling all your weight on them when they fly off so u can react faster:ack2:
