Hi Guys,
Did a quick search and did not see this referenced, so thought I would share the info of how this rack turned out for me.
I needed a spider box rack as I had built 2 off-road karts around this rack. I had robbed the rack from the first to build the second. Looked online and could not find the sb rack.
I ordered the common go kart steering kit from amazon and also a 08-14 RZR 800 rack $66. The amazon rack was a joke and the actual splined rack was the thickness of my pinky finger. Not sure how they have so many good reviews.
The rzr 800 rack was a winner. It is an inch longer at the ends of the rack than the sb, from memory it's 12" long. I took the tie rods off and there is an extra 1/2" of thread inside the rack, so if needed you could shorten it without needed to drill and tap anymore thread.
The outer ends of the tie rods were too long, so I cut them back. They had extra thread, so no problem and it worked in my case. Remember this is not on a sb so YMMV.
The only gotcha is the spline on the rack. It is an odball 14mm with 28 splines and then what would be 2 more splines machined flat. I could not find a joint for that and I ordered a couple of sizes around it. I could also not find a replacement steering shaft that was a decent price.
From ebay I sourced the steering shaft, wheel and the bracket that the shaft goes into to support the wheel for $80. Worked out seeing it's supposed to go together... I had to cut and lengthen the steering shaft as it was too short for my large manco 2 seater.
I don't know the spline count of the rzr steering wheel, but that thing is huge. It's not too bad on the large manco and with how easy the rack turns it makes it feel like power steering. It is really quick though and I got my buggy on 2 wheels a couple of times throwing it around corners too quick. So just be warned.
The beauty of this rack is how cheap and sturdy it is. Parts for the rzr will be around for quite some time.
Beware that if you do not purchase the rack I indicated you will get a rack with longer tie rods, from my limited research. I did ask the ebay seller who parts out UTV's if the steering shaft etc is the same for all the rzr 800 for the corresponding years and that it's just the racks (tie rods) that are different and he told me yes. But as always, do you own research/ask questions before buying.
I will post a few photos.
