brakes carb fuel pump and new gas tank? you should never have to replace a gas tank (is it cracked?). Brakes, the most they could need is new pads, maybe new lines (50 tops for all that). Again, carb should almost never need replacing, so at worst you would have to clean it ($5 max for a can of carb cleaner and roll of toilet paper). Fuel pump, assuming its a mikuni diaphragm one, would be more more than 10-20. Thats a total of maybe 80-100 absolute maximum.

The gas tank is cracked, if you touch it it breaks apart. It was left in the sun. The pads are fine, if you hit the brake pedal it doesn't grip the rotor. The guy at the shop told me the brake fluid, when left sitting for too long, eats through seals in the brake system and you need to rebuild something. carb they said needs cleaning, possible rebuilding if it's sat that long to the point where it messed up the carb. I assume they claim the fuel pump needs to be replaced for having fuel sitting in it for so long as well.

I called the repair shop and I guess I heard them wrong... they said $300 to fix it up.

so I am going to take it in next monday or tuesday to have them try and start it up and see how the motor is doing. I will let you guys know then. If the motor does start/run I will probably buy it. If not, I will let anyone who wants it have it.

New fuel tanks are like $25~$55 depending on how fancy and/or how big you want to go. I paid $20 for my G-man 1 ~ 1.25 gallon belly tank , it had been sitting around for a while but never installed. As far as brakes, it's quite possible all they need is flushing and bleeding. If you had to freshen up the caliper AND the master, you might spend $50~$60 I betcha I could have that thing near race ready in a couple of evenings,

I've seen a MC carb that had been literally ate away. All that was left of the passages was dust in the float bowl...

Still if you look around you can get some hella good deals on Ebay.

Man you got a really great deal there, congrats :drool5:

I'm still wondering about its age. Looking at your nerf bar I noticed its an angled front mount design just like mine. European race karts went to straight nerf mounts in early-2000. This means your kart was most likely made sometime in the 90's/early-2000. (still great karts!) I just found out the first 2 digits of Tony kart frame numbers are the model, and the 3rd is the year of manufacture. Whats your 3rd #?

The carbs on my KZ sat for a long long time with gas in them (last inspection date of bike was 85'), and it only took half an hour of cleaning to get the thing to run. Im not saying they cant be ruined, just saying it would take quite some time.

Neil, I doubt they will get it running, unless your willing to pay them to clean the carb/buy new fuel lines on the spot. I would say clean the carb and buy new fuel lines yourself ($10 max), then try to start it yourself with a rigged gravity fed tank.

OK Well here is my 2 cents. I spoke to to the guy at my track who happens to not only race for tony cart but he is also the SOLE US importer for them. He told me at 600-800 running or not to buy it. He said the 80cc shifter kart was one of the best they ever put out, and he personally loves them.

I believe he also said they they have not made them in about 10 years. RickRacer knows who the guy is and can back me up when I say this guy knows karts.

So if you got it for 450 and really do need to drop another 4-600 into it you have made out.

WOOOO MAN I AM EXCITED!

I got a new gas tank, put it in myself, with some gas/oil. Put in a new plug. Looked for spark, but had nothing. Read up on the forum and tried disconnecting the kill switch like some people had suggested and had a TON of spark :).

Tried turning the motor to pump some gas, but nothing. Got a new fuel pump and it pumped like a champ. I pumped some gas up to the carb then put the plug back in. Tried spinning the wheels maybe 3 times, and it fired up just fine.

Ran for a minute but had no water in it so I shut it down before it got too warm. Going to get some new fuel lines and water hoses tomorrow. Also going to get the radiator cleaned out real nice since water was left in it and it corroded.

All it needed was about $60 for a new tank, and $30 for a new fuel pump.

Next is the brakes and it's ready to go :D:D:D:D any advice on how to fix them?

Glad I took a shot at fixing it myself.

Thanks so far everyone.

Hey Man,

I just wanted to let you know that my Tony Kart guy had a look at your pics and he said it did not appear to be a tony kart. I believe he said the make is a Corsa. But he did say its still a great kart

Told you it wouldnt be $400

Fixing the brakes, i personally doubt they even need fixing. Simply flush out all the old brake fluid (or what ever is in there, probably a little water too), if its corroded clean it out a bit. I like to completely disconnect the brake lines and blow them out with a bit of compressed air, you can also completely remove the bleeder valve on the caliper and blow some air through there too. once its all flushed out, reconnect it, and bleed the brakes.

If you don't know how to bleed the brakes, let me know and i'll explain later, or maybe someone else will, as I'm about to head into town now, then I'm hoping to get a full day of work on my shifter kart in.

I think I saw Andre at the track yesterday, drives a yellow Lamborghini right? I went up to meet a friend of mine to swap some parts and show him what I've got done so far on my kart.

Hey McNelius, the pics in this ads link: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/rvs/1382480092.html are supposed to be of a Tony shifter if your interested in comparing to yours.

Most any race kart of this level should have origanaly had serial numbers stamped into the frame some place. These can sometimes be hard to find but could end up being helpful in Identifying its brand. I dont want to be a downer here but If yours came with the combonation of a seller that didnt know its brand plus its serial numbers have been somehow removed, I think we probably all know why he sold it off so cheap...

i took the brakes apart yesterday, and found a problem. There is some kind of valve inside of the master cylinder that is stuck, not moving. So I have to clean out the cylinder, maybe hone it out and get a new seal. Also, there is a small valve on the back of the cylinder that when i disconnected the brake line i found was cracked, so I need a new piece there.

So tomorrow I will get a few small pieces to start fixing it up again.

Is that a bad thing? I don't plan on racing it. Just gonna mess around with it for a little bit and then sell it.

The yellow lambo belongs to his friend. They had it on the drag strip last weekend..haha . Andre would have been the guy running around in the white tony kart shirt.

I was there yesterday running a few laps on the rentals.
