What kind of clutch is on that thing? The motor alone is worth it...if it runs. Sadly enough for you, sales don't happen much here.

That's a common line you get when something is broken and they're trying to sell it.

Tell him you'll give him $300 if it runs and $150 if it doesn't. If it doesn't run it's broken, right. :D

You can test for compression by pulling the pull start and guaging the resistance. You can test for spark by pulling the plug grounding it and cranking it over. Without compression its a major fix, with only compression it could be a minor or major fix, with compression and spark it's probably a crapped up carb, and if you can get it started it probably only needs some deep cleaning.

If it has an electric starter bring a 12 volt battery with you, make sure the choke is on and the plug clean, and crank it over for a while. After my minor/major fix from a "was running, parked it last fall and now it won't start" project, it took 20-30 seconds of continuous cranking several times before it started. Not something you can do with a pull starter.

Bring a few ounces of fuel along with your battery. Pour an ounce directly in the carb, and crank it over. If it "ran when parked", it'll start now... It may not stay running, as the carb will be fouled up from sitting, but it should fire.

On the other hand- $300 for THAT around here would be a wicked deal, and I'd take it as it sits, no questions asked.

pro filters? like high flow filters? you can make anything fit... there probably are no specific 18hp briggs adapters though.
