I have been looking for a frame for awhile now and came across this one on craigslist. I don't know much about it and was hoping you guys could help. The seller says its belt driven, I don't know much aout belt driven systems and would like to convert it to use a clutch and sprocket. How hard would this be? Also I don't think the rear axle has a keyway. Would I have to weld the sprocket on? And does anyone know what style or brand of kart this is?

Thanks, Mason.

Thanks, Mason.

I'm pretty sure you could take the axle off and have someone cut a keyway in it for you! (machine shop) Never weld anything onto an axle!

:welcome2:

Okay and also the seller said overall pretty good condition, with a few spots with slight surface rust. Is this something to be concerned about?

It's a dead axle, only one wheel is powered...

Personally, I think it's a little overpriced, given the fact that it's just the frame. Ok, it has a fibreglass body but, how much is that really worth?

Another point, how big is it? Will your legs fit under the body?

Well IF its JUST surface rust, that should be ok. Just some sandpaper and paint, you should be ready to go.

Now if you can push a hole thru the rust, thats a problem and would need attention!

I was thinking the same thing Fabroman, seemed a little pricey!

Oh my god it is a dead axle :O I hadn't even noticed. If I wanted to switch it I just need to find a new one that fits the hangers right? And I don't mind it not having an engine or anything because I already have a clone to put in it

There are no hangers. A dead axle is, essentially, a tube welded to the frame with stub axles on the ends.

You can cut it off & make pillow block hangers easily from 2 pieces of angle.

Also, if you convert to live axle, the steering will need some tweaking...
