I traded one of my rifles for this 1998 Yamaha electric golf cart.
My family goes camping alot so I decided to get rid of one of MANY rifles to start a golf cart project. The goal was to strip all of the electrical wires, motor and battery out of the cart and install a 6.5 hp gas engine in.I lost a LOT of weight removing all of the batteries and motor out. On the rearend the shaft will spin 9 times before the rear wheel makes 1 full rotation. I had a feeling that the motor and rearend were not going to work out but I tried anyways! After i mounted the motor and got a chain, clutch, and sproket I tested it out and when i first accelerated it took off like it was going to pull the wheels off the ground, but then it went like 6 mph at full throttle!
Not going to cut it at all....Now i bought a rear differential from northern tool and im going to install it into the cart BUT i dont know what sproket to get.
Also when i removed the rearend now i have no brakes,so i need to install a disc brake setup on the rearend, also dont know what hubs to use that will match up to my golf cart wheels that i believe are 4x100 pattern.
Alright here is the cart

THE ENGINE

THE OLD REAREND I REMOVED AND LOST LIKE 200 POUNDS OF WEIGHT!!!

NEW REAREND

ANY help would be apreiciated I am stuck on how to properly mount the rearend and what hubs, sproket, brakes to use.
THANKS

Would the caliper work on the sproket is basically the question. If it doesnt then I will have to mount a disc and caliper.

I have seen build threads where people did that, I don't know how well it works. Why don't you want to mount a disc? I would think that the chain lube would make your brakes slip if you used the sprocket.

Well, I was thinking that Toystory had used the drive sprocket for his brake disc, but it looks like he just used a sprocket.

I guess i will just have to measure and see how big the caliper is and if there is enough room between the chain to mount it up. THANKS for the pic I need to see stuff like that to get ideas.

You should read all the build threads you can stand. There's good stuff in all of them. Except maybe mine. :roflol:
