Golf Cart motor

I am looking to give my twin 8 year old sons a project and help them build an electric go cart. So far, I've got a sweet frame with rack and pinion steering and working brakes, from an old 1960's gas powered cart. It's in relatively good shape.

I was also able to score an old electric golf cart motor. It's a hitachi MT320-07. Problem is, I can't seem to find any specs online on it as its way old. So I don't know what controller to buy, or anything else for that matter. Also read somewhere that these old carts use multiple solenoid or some such gibberish. I a. Not sure what this means or how it affects what I need to bench test this motor and see if she spins.

I am quite new to go carts, but eager to learn. Any advice would be super helpful.

everything you need to know is on the label (or the frame aka motor case)

Oh and just to get this out (before someone moans) it's golf cart alright but go Kart (k!)
aaaanyways.. BTT

The motor is a DC motor and it's 36Volts.. it has an input rating of 2kW

So you only need to know if it's brushed or brushless to determine the controller..
it's likely brushed (has an even number of terminals either two or four)
depends if its a PM motor (two terminals) or has field coil windings (four)
or in your case is series wound (has field coils but just two terminals...)

an odd number of terminals likely point into a brushless direction
because of the age I'd say it's NOTseries wound brushless I haven't seen so far so that's another "Nope" :D..

Sooo brushed DC controller for a 36V 2kW motor.
(2000Watts / 36Volts ~ 55.6Amps)
So the controller needs to deliver at least 56 Amps continuously ...
so it's likely rated at 100 Amps. (they heat up too and depending on the mfg.... nevermind labeled 100Amps or more)

that's the controller you'd want or at least similar to the one you want of course.
(but afaik kelly is almost always the best bang for the buck ;))
