I'm managing a go Kart project for an engineering club at my community college (our science/engineering department is pretty darn good). Except we can't weld there, but maybe we can do a little w/the theater department (not sure yet).
So I've been considering planning out a wood-framed gokart and then having the club assemble it. Some folks have been thinking about getting a kit of some sort but I can't find anything too promising. I've run into that azusa kit a lot but I don't know if it'll be okay for electric setups.

Keep in mind that we are NOT going to do intense/offroad racing of any kind. We're building something that can just casually go around the department parking lot most likely.
You guys think a well built wood framed kart would be okay for that sort of purpose? Or maybe a well bolted metal frame? I've done some snooping around on this site for a long time and I know you folks don't go for wood/bolt designs but what if it was well made and for just a casual roll in the parking lot?
I found a wood design that's similar to what I had in mind (ours would have a safer driver setup of course) except I was thinking 3x4 studs would be better 2x4.
