Gokart clutches and sprockets

And now you can see my problem.
The clutch says fits 40,41,420 chain and came with a 420 chain
The sprocket is 40 and specifically says will not fit 41 chain. Does this mean if I got a 40 chain my clutch would work?0"

That is correct. #41 & #420 chain have a width of 1/4" whereas #40 is 5/16" wide.
The wider chain will work fine on the narrow sprocket but, narrow chain will not fit on the thicker sprocket
