This is by far my favorite kart of all time.

http://www.rearenginekarts.com/gk1200 repro.htm

However I know that they are few and far between. Even If I did find one It would cost more than I could afford. So I decided that I would like to make one similar. Does anyone know where to get dimensions for this gem? Obviously there are going to be some things I will have to do differently. Like the Motor for example. Probably going to have to use a flatty or a clone. However I have found old westbends for as little as 300. The go power wheels will probably be replaced by azusa's from Northern tool. One of my friends is a welder and I figured between the two of us we could probably build this thing from the ground up.

So if anyone can point me in the direction of the specs for this kart it would be great. If I cant find the dimensions I might just have to eye ball it. :rolleyes3:

I just received a phone call from the promoter of the BIG ONE in Ohio. He said he would email around for me and try to come up with a direction for me. Apparently there are a few people who make reproduction 1200's out there.

Would anyone in the Virginia area like to go down to the Vintage Kart race at Virginia International raceway in November?

Thanks, I've retired from my tree trimming job so I've got lots more free time now. All I gotta do nowadays is pick up dog poop, play bass in my bands and spend too much time posting on several Internet forums

A) Define vintage
B) Got more info? This wouldnt be too bad of a trip.

I tried to calling VIR today but did not get to talk to anyone. I will try again 2morrow when things are less crazy here on the ship. I think the VINTAGE karts are considered to be anything 1972 or older. I got that information from THE BIG ONE in Ohio.

As soon as I find the exact dates I will let you know.

I have drawn up some rather simple plans for frames. They will resemble the GK1200 but they will be less appealing to the eye. Fewer flawless curves and more angles. The Ultimate goal is to produce several of these frames for people who would be willing to do the weekend racing with me. (lets not bring up the whole insurance thing, i feel like we beat that old horse to death before.)

The Plan
Build several frames to the same specs and sell them for $10 dollars more than it cost to buy the materials for each frame.
Use Clones with 5 simple mods. New air filter, new exhausts, larger jets, 18lb valve springs, and finally no gov. (keeping on a level yet affordable playing field.

Still looking into affordable wheel tire options. The goal is to keep this affordable for everyone so they can all stay in the game and stay competitive.

Some of you might remember me talking about this in older post. This is still something I feel strongly about. I can not wait to get this going. It will all just have to wait until my enlistment is up thats all.

Sent you a PM, I have drawings for the GK1200. Not an easy frame to make though as it's all one piece front axle to front axle, I would make it in two or more pieces with a join behind the seat.

I'm not at liberty to pass these plans along because of their rarity. It wouldn't be right to post them on the forum either. Justin has worked hard to collect them and I will not undermine his endeavors. If you are serious about using these plans maybe you can PM Justin. But he sent me the plans in confidence knowing what my intentions are.
