Going back to school? maybe..

So I've decided.. that instead of taking up more cpy jobs. that I want a career. I've boiled it down to two things. Going to school to be a motorcycle mechanic.. Or becoming a fish and wildlife officer. both require some schooling, obviously one is easier then the other. the money really isn't an issue, I have enough saved up for to pay for one of them. I just have to decide! i've been racking my brain, both careers I can more then gladly do. but what to choose?! I need some outside opinions on this...

Not that I can advise here (I'm 43 & I still don't know what I wanna do when I grow up) but, I would look at it like this:

You'll be working for the next 40+ years, you have to think ahead to what you will be happy doing in all those years; will your career be satisfying?

The best advice I can offer is talk to others in both fields, see how long they've been in their jobs & how they feel about it...

I went from mechanical to panel beating & now can't do either as a result of injuries acquired from both fields. My brother-in-law started out as a mechanic in the army & continued his career into the public sector, now he's a maintenance man in a retirement village. Meanwhile, his son started out as a auto parts interpreter & is now loving being a qualified machanic...

My point there is, unless you invest years of study & hundreds of thousands of dollars into your career (like doctors, lawyers, etc), the vast majority of people change careers at some point...

I have friends in both fields already, mainly for my choice. the fish and wildlife can seem to get boring at times.. but it is a stable job, and from my understanding they can provide lodging, depending where you're located. also since its a government job, there's no "shops closing" kind of deal. also because its so lax, it's better for my IBS.

on second hand the fellow I know who works on bikes, really likes it. but also takes side work all the time. I have not asked him why he does this, I always assumed it was for extra money. He tells me its hard to get into a good shop, but once you do its good work and money.

The point behind the last paragraph of my other post was to hint towards doing both; start with the bikes now, while you're young, do that for a few years then switch to fish & wildlife.

That way you get to do both, end up in a stable job by the time you're 30 & you have something to fall back on if you ever get bored with F&W
