i have a 5.5 honda gokart a i made bit of a bodge job wat gear ratio should i have at the mo it is runing 10 on the engine and 53 on the saft wit 52 inch cercumfrace wheels.

What is diameter of tires? That's what we use to calculate proper ratio.
Normally ratio is 5 or 6 to 1 (5:1 or 6:1).

Assuming you've still got the govenor hooked up you'd be hitting about 34 mph at 3600rpm:

Hey Russ, the gear calculator I'd linked above uses circumference and I feel its actualy easier to get a more accurate measurement around the center of the tire. This calculator also gives the ratio.

Theres no instructions and some people have reported having trouble using it, but after the gear count and tire circumference is entered you simply have to raise/lower any field to update the results. Check it out, its pretty cool.
