Go kart won't start

A few days ago I was driving my go kart around like normal and I was turning a corner and it stalled. Then I tried starting the go kart and the clutch made this awful noise. So I oiled the clutch and it fixed that problem. So I try to start it and it doesn't start! So I changed the oil and it still wouldn't start. When I tried to start it, it would never seem to even make a choke sound. I tried almost every thing in the book to make sure I was starting it correctly and it wouldn't.

I took out the airfilter and cleaned it out and while I did that, I noticed oil and maybe even a bit of gas in the air filter(It may not have been gas). So I cleaned out the airfilter and put it back in, and it still wouldn't start.

Is it normal to find oil or gas in the airfilter?

I'm wondering if I may need a new spark plug.

Foam air filters generally have oil in them, that is how they work. They need to have that in them. But if it was engine oil or gas like you said, I don't know how that could happen. Try testing the plug for a spark. If it sparks, then maybe take a look at the carb.

1. You were clearly wasting your time there. The engine will run without oil, for a while.

2. What is a "choke" sound?

3. An engine can run with the dirtiest of air filters, or no air filter. You should have looked at the three things you must have for the engine to run:

Fuel
Spark
Compression

4. Ding! Getting warmer. You may need a new spark plug. They can fail at any time--either just wear-out from hard use, they can be destroyed by detonation or pre-ignition or they can simply fail 100% which is rare but it happens.

Pull the plug and inspect. It could simply be fouled with oil or fuel.

Let me add: more than once...( and I'm not sure why in the world).... but the problem has been BRAND NEW SPARKPLUGS!!!!

Seems like sometimes they are defective. (You would think they would check them....but I guess not.)

it's not uncommon to pull a plug on a mysteriously stopped engine, and find a little chunk of carbon between the electrodes.
This will stop and engine and prevent it from starting every time.

Normally when I have an engine quit like this, I first change the air in my tires.

Dirty carb, stuck float valve are possibilities.

Haha that's the funny part. Because I really don't know why it started. THe only thing I did was pull out the spark plug cap and plug it back in tighter to make sure it was in properly. Then I tried a few other things before trying to start the gokart, but not really much.

So yeah, it's still running fine.... Maybe it just doesn't like winter
