I built this kart in like 2017 or 2018 and I never got around to fully finishing it. I want it to be fully finished without any issues. I finally painted it. Now I am wondering if my go kart wheels are to big for a 212cc engine. I have a chinese torque converter from amazon. The axle sprocket is a 48 tooth or a 45 tooth. The torque converter's drive sprocket is probably a 10 tooth. I forget the actual diameter of the tires but I have a pic. 20220426_131745.jpg

Depending on how much you weigh...it's going to be a stretch. For those tires you will need at least a 72 tooth on the axle, and go to a 9 tooth on the torque converter.......or drop down to 16 inch tires....those are the options as I see it !

Thanks for the response red. I weigh around 180lbs. I always had issues with the drive system such as the chain coming off or the engine would seem to be running a bit hot, though I couldn't confirm it. The thing is if I add a 72 tooth sprocket on the axle the kart will be really slow.

Well it's not really an off road kart. I put it together with scraps that I had laying around. I will never do that again because you just add more time and energy which isn't fun. It's worth waiting for the right material.

Ouch. I'm hurting for your driveline, it's hating it. You need a much bigger axle sprocket, and some shorter tires. Yes, that will slow down your top end speed while it's giving you the power the motor and CVT belt need, but with more power via the improved driveline you'll find that you can wind up more rpm from that engine for your top end speed. Doesn't matter how fast it can go if you burn it up.

Actually a 60 tooth sprocket is what you need. It will give you great acceleration and top speed. And yes you need to get a solid floor so you don’t spear your self while driving. That is no fun and will ruin your fun. Your tire size is fine, actually you could even go up in size then if you wanted.
