Go kart motor not configured correctly

I would re-do the entire rear end. Move the engine back as well as the rear axle. Get plenty of clearance and good weight distribution. I ran my exhaust pipes vertically on my snowmobile engine. They go up, turn, and exhaust towards the ground.

I welded a couple of steel elbows to make the bends work. It works fine.

If you get the same size pipe and find a solid steel insert you could slide between the two and weld them together that way. You just drill a few holes on the pieces of pipes you want to join and weld the pipe to the steel insert via the drilled holes.
