Update for the curious, bored, or partners in crime! We spoke to the "Zoning Inspector" accompanied by her "Director of Operations". We also attended a Town Council Meeting. Wow! One would think that the title "Inspector" would imply a person with a curious mind, one who is interested in investigating / reporting facts... not so much! I feel like I am living in the Twilight Zone! (I think I just dated myself!) This "Inspector" told us it has been reported to her office that we are operating a sanctioned race track, charging admission and running sanctioned event! Now come on! Thats ridiculous! we don't even have a grandstand! (I make myself laugh!) It's just that ridiculous! Next stop? Attorney! I am thinking by now, I don't really own this land! I have just been maintaining it for the Township for the last 15 years and they owe me a LOT of money for mowing 5 acres!

What your talking about here is "the ordinary comfort of human existence". Do your "reasonable" neighbors consider your noise a nuisance? Best way to know is to ask. Do your own investigating. Poll your neighbors. Ask while the karts are operating. This allows a few things: first a chance to meet your neighbors, secondly, a chance to monitor noise levels at each neighbors residence.
A noise nuisance begins at your property line. Noise emanating past that line can be considered a nuisance if its over 85 decibels in most cases.
You have a right to "discovery". This implies your zoning inspector is compelled to disclose all of the evidence against you. If there is no evidence of advertising, no evidence of finance, no evidence of revenue, the zoning inspectors case becomes moot.

That being said. At this point i would not ask a neighbor over to enjoy the experience. If they're willing to call a cop on you or write a letter they'll certainly try any means necessary to for monetary gain and to urinate on your parade. Upto and including injuring them self or others to screw you over.
Fighting this yourself can be a good learning experience. You have a duty to defend the civil liberties of your family. Doing so can and probably will be a excellent civics learning experience for your kids. Fight Mom and Happy Independence Day.
