I'd go with the 212 predator from harbor freight, its on sale at the moment for $120 i believe. And you need a clutch if you want to the engine to be able to be on while the go kart isnt moving, and so you dont stall when you come to a stop

BMI karts have the same kit much cheaper. Having said that, the shipping cost may make up the difference but, it's worth checking out...

Another option for you is to find a beater on craigslist & refurbish it

Does the clutch come in the engine? Another stupid question. And is the one with EPA &CARB better than just EPA?

Edit: How would you put the clutch in? Any vid links?

The clutch does not come with the engine, you have to put it on yourself. It just slides on the shaft and you put a bolt in the end, tighten any set screws and you are good to go.

The CARB and EPA things are just California emissions laws and regulations. If you have a choice, get one without.

Take some chalk and draw an outline on the driveway that is the same dimensions as the kart frame, especially from seat to pedals. Imagine the kart zooming around, are you comfortable in that position?

People can fit in a lot of things, whether it is comfortable or reasonable for them to do so is another matter.

That engine is an 8hp, so it most likely has a 1 inch shaft. Meaning any clutch or TC will be a lot more expensive than the more widely used 3/4" shaft.

Also, the footprint of that engine is larger than most 6.5 hp or less engines, so the motor mount on that kit will probably be too small without modification. And you will have to remote mount the tank.

Short answer, no.

Also, what's a comfy length of seat back to pedals for someone like me?

It's not likely, it's definite, read the ad again...

For the price of that old engine, you can buy a new predator & a clutch...
