I was thinking about building one of the go karts from gokartusa.com. Has anyone purchased one of these kits from there? I would appreciate any type of feedback to help my purchase.

Thanks for all the feedback Russ, you've helped make my decision. Gonna build this kart for my school project.

That kart kit is made by Azusa. I'm an Azusa dealer and I can tell you we have had a few problems with that kit. Here's what some customers didn't like;

First, it's short! If you are a tall guy, your knees are going to be up around your ears. But if you aren't taller then say 5 feet, it may be OK. A couple customers have extended the frame for better driving comfort.

Second complaint - some customers don't like the seat. It looks more like patio furniture then a gokart seat. But it works pretty well for a fun kart.

Third, when using the stock unmodified spindles, the ackerman is really bad! Makes it really difficult to turn.

Ackerman is what causes the inside front wheel to turn tighter then the outside front wheel in a turn. If your ackerman is bad, then the tires fight for grip and usually the kart just goes straight.

We have one of these here we play with and we made a SIMPLE weld on fix which corrected the ackerman and really improved the handling of the kart. But my kness are still up around my ears.

It's a good kit to start with and pretty easy to assemble.:auto:

A true GoKart IS small.
At 5' 10" I have had no problems driving it, or getting in or out of it as evidenced by video.
Seat looks are the least of my worries. The fact that it flexes makes life easier for me given my somewhat unorthodoxed power plants and engine mounts. My 2¢.

The can elevate the motor slightly as well as create more room in the cramped rear end. I believe it's mostly for clearance of the chain though.

what purpose do the 15 degree motor mounts server?

Those 15 degree mounts you've noticed for sale are used on side-engine race karts to gain more tire clearance.
