So i bought a go kart frame, on which the rear sprocket is on the right side after the hub. My plan is to put a 2 stroke yamaha dt200 engine on it the thing is that the sprocket on the yamaha dt200 engine comes out at the left side not the right so that got me thinking , how could i connect the axle to the engine? One option that i thought was buying another axle or getting this one machined to have a keyway at the right place but even if i can connect the sprocket on the axle the frame is blocking the way of the sprocket in this case. The other option is to make a small jackshaft that on one end takes a chain from the engine and on the other side there is a same size sprocket with another chain that goes to the rear axle, my problem with this option is that i am worried that the chain may come of while shifting such a powerfull engine... What do you suggest i do , cut and reweld the frame or use a jackshaft? Here are some pictures:

Sthe yamaha dt200 engine comes out at the right side not the left so that got me thinging ...
I need to see this to know what you mean.
I was confused too.. until I realised OP just messed up left and right.

Checked (just to make sure there's no oddball Yamaha DT around) and in fact the chain is where it's supposed to be; on THE LEFT SIDE of the engine.

Now, what you have is a 2stroke kart (100cc I guess) so the chain is outboard the axle bearings.

What you need now is a shifter axle for your kart (diameter and length is all that matters)
shifter karts, run essentially motorcycle engines (no they don't, but they are very much alike motorcycle engines) and the chain then runs INBOARD the axle bearings (on the engine's left side)

get a matching motor mount and sprocket and you'd be fine

What frame is that? I have the same one and I have no idea what it is. I have an RM80 6 speed on mine and its a blast!

I also dont know it's a pcr frame looks like the jaguar 2000 but it's not??:worried2: Whats your top speed with that motor?

Sorry you are right confused left and right on the engine :roflol:
but if i got a 40mm axle that has a keyway in the right place wouldnt the sprocket be obstructed by the frame? Or are the sprockets on motorcycle engined go karts so small?

Yeah i got left and right wrong, the axle on the engine is on the left:oops:

oops indeed, I haven't noticed that your crossbar is fixed
I was just looking at the thumbnails..
Well, shifter sprockets are smaller, but not that small I'm afraid.
Also shifter kart engines [again] are not motorcycle engines,
and you need a bigger sprocket for a motorcycle engine than you'd need for a kart engine..

You can't use the frame with a motorcycle engine, that's where we end up with I'm afraid.
No, you should not cut the crossbracing!
The kart is likely to turn into a pretzel on very short order.

Go find a different chassis, a four stroke chassis will
and a shifter chassis will likely work.

You can get some pretty small axle sprockets for shifter karts, maybe small enough to clear the frame. They're usually #420 chain and usually for larger 40-50mm axles.

Here is just one of many:
https://www.fastech-racing.com/ftp-428-split-gears-steel-40mm.html

If the DT200 didn't come with a 420 chain, then you'll have to cross-reference a countershaft sprocket in that pitch with a matching spline and width(and bolt holes if it's retained that way).

I was going to put a Yamaha DT2 (250cc) engine on my kart and did all the same research.

While they might clear the frame, they might not fit the engine (not pitch.. but final reduction wise)

rule of thumb: same ratios as on the bike will move a kart well
much higher ratios might not work.

Considering the difference in tire height between the bike and a kart, the final drive ratio can be very low.

The stock CS sprocket seems to be 17 teeth and the stock tire about 26.6" tall, so a 23t axle sprocket would about match the stock DT200 gearing with an 11.5" kart tire.

Cmon guys.. There is very simple solution, its called jacksaft..

I had same issue, motorcycle engine on 100cc shifter and engine sprocket hitting right into bearings..

Put js on top on bearings, and put sprocket between chassis and wheel hub..

And with js you can keep all sprocket prety much small..

Anyway, you can take look on my thread, honda nsr 125 on all kart chassis..

My top speed is around 70 or 90km/hr, and it pulls really hard! make another post once you have me some progress, would love to see how it turns out
Also if you want i can show you how everything is worked out on my kart regarding the sprocket. with mine its a 2 piece sprocket that has a little piece that goes into the existing keyway that makes basically a reverse keyway. kinda hard to explain sorry

Try "fixed keyway". Not really hard to understand or explain.,
