Go kart frame materials

I have been looking around for the best go kart frame material and have been getting different answers everywhere I look.
I am making a road go kart and would like to use round tubing.
I'm thinking 1" tubing will be good but what wall thickness or ID would be appropriate?

14ga or .0747" should be plenty thick. Do you have experience welding round tubing? It's not the easiest to do as a beginner.

Not sure where you're located, but I've had great luck with Docol tubing, AED in Indianapolis is a excellent source. They supply to a lot of the race car shops here, and very knowledgeable on this kind of stuff. You walk in their store and there's a beautiful kart frame hanging on the wall.

Thanks a bunch for the response! you had me confused for a bit there, .0747 IS 14ga for sheet metal and not tubing. no worries got that figured out antways! but i do have some experience as i just finished my C level welding course!
ill probably go with what you suggested.

I have built many karts using regular old water pipe

The smaller size is called 1/2" schedule 40 but, it's actually 7/8" OD. x 5/8" ID. with a 1/8" wall
