Hello I am building an offroad go kart and would like to know if 1.6mmx30mmx30mm rhs mild steel would be suitable for the base frame and 1.6mmx25mm circular tubing would be suitable for the roll frame of the go kart. I am thinking of using the sidewinder concept from www.edge.au.com

I am using 1.6x25x25mm for my Dirt Devil gokart and it holds pretty fine. The sidewinder is bigger and probably much heavier aswell. I think 1.6x30x30mm is the way to go, but wait for some other members to give their opinion aswell.

I personally would go for a bigger tube for your roll frame. 25mm sounds a bit too small. Around 40mm sound better in my opinion.

The size of all the needed frame materials are listed within the sidewinder plans. I can tell you that the sidewinder mainly uses much larger tubing than 25mm square, but you must purchase the plans for yourself to get all of the actual measurements.

I am going to do a similar build to the sidewinder but only with a 100cc motor so that's why I'm asking

IF it is a well designed and constructed space frame, then that main frame material should be fine. However- what you are proposing for a roll "frame" is NOT strong enough for the task.

Yep. At least that big. I do hope you're a very good welder though. A poorly built roll bar/cage can do more damage than good in the even of a rollover.

Learning , but the go kart is only going to be a prototype though
