So I have a Tao Tao arrow 150(ariel atom clone) that I bought on Facebook marketplace for $200 engine was shot. Was wondering if anyone could tell me how complicated it would be to fit a engine from a 2005 chevy aveo(not the best engine, but i got an entire rear end totaled car for cheap). The engine isn't very big, and I have welding, and air tool capabilites, just not used to doing this to a go kart.

Well from what I can see, mounting the engine will be pretty straight forward, I've figures out the brakes, swapping the wheel hubs over for the front of the go kart(going to using the stick wheels).. My issue is the getting the rear suspension to work, since fwd the half shaft are design to pivot for turning, gonna need to lock them solid to prevent movement, also gotta figure out the suspension for the rear as this kart have an engine sub frame that pivot and had its own suspension. Also to note I have the pedal already swapped over to the kart( car is a Manual), Frame is going to be extended(from the middle) to match the length of the atom. And seat is being mounted in the middle. Steering is being order via a custom shop due to stock turning radius.

Keep in mind that you're talking about replacing a 150cc single cylinder motor with one that weighs well over 200 lbs. by itself.
Add in the tranny and you're pushing 300 lbs. minimum.

Yea I figured that part, strength the engine compartment to compensate for what is somthing I've done on a diff build, but as it stands the cage took 500 without a issue, but that static, not moving around and such

Too me I think it would probably take a long time but I hope it turns out and I wonder if that frame will hold up to the power and weight

They make a adapter to bolt up a vw transaxle. Kep makes them. I think a ecotec is basically the same engine.

I personally would just put a motorcycle engine in it. Alot smaller and easier.

Yea but finding a motorcycle engine nearby that under 500, that isn't a complete waste is like finding a needle in a haystack, and yes im I'm sure the frame can handle it, it very rigid for a Chinese knock off, and tbh I've seen one of these being abused lol

Quick update, after taking measurements, im gon a using the entire front end modified a d little to. Mount directly to the go kart, Frame of the kart is being extended and widened to allow for a seamless fit, Tao Tao even gave my the type of metal that was used in frame construction, which after taking a sample to a buddy of mine that has a net shop confirmed it is more than rigid enough to handle what I'm attempting, also added a suspension upgrade into the mix, front(which are horizontal like the atom.)and then a tire upgrade

So you think the Tao Tao is stout? I have been looking into the cheap brands like that for a buggy and some people seem to think they are junk.

I am looking at getting one of these go karts. Although, I am 6' 2" and am wondering how I would fit. Would love to see pics also!

10HP and 750 lbs doesn't sound as nice as 100 HP and 1000 lbs.
