Totally doable, take a look around the Photo Gallery & Project Log section http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=10, for some ideas, there are plenty of suspension mods in there.

If you want to work on a VERY high level, I would suggest checking out the album SAEbajacaptain has posted in his profile page. It's a single seater, off road buggy, with a 10HP engine. The buggy is incredible.
