Go Kart Brake Help

These brakes on this go kart I bought seem good, they have a cable hooked up to a master cylinder already, but they are missing brake pads. I am new to go karts, and have no idea what size brake pads I need and how they are installed. If anyone could lend some information it would be very helpful.

If you know what caliper you have, Comet Karts has a multitude of different pads available.
If you don't know, post some better pics of it so we can help you.

Post some straight on side views of the caliper (with better lighting if possible).
Both sides.
A look at the master cylinder as well may help.

I'm thinking maybe CRG but hard to say right now.
Can you get one of the master cylinder?
My first question should have been- Do you know what kind of kart you have?

It is a BIZ go kart frame. I took apart the caliper, heres what the inside looks like.

BIZ is a U.K. based race kart shop.

I'd contact them direct and ask.

Ain't much about racing Karts they don't know.

I'm not sure its a Biz part though because most of the parts on it are not BIZ. The inside of the brakes look like they have a certain bolt pattern that will fit brake pads. Are there some cheap brakes i could replace this caliper with and still use the master cylinder.

As long as the mounting bolt holes line up with the bracket and the brake line hooks up you can pretty much use whatever you want.
As it's a race kart, what'll bolt right on probably won't be an econo caliper...which makes sense.
Any kart shops in your area you can take yours to for id help?

I just checked their site and the only brake pads they sell look as if they would fit right on. However, I don't know how these brakes work. What in the brake will be pushing the pads to clamp the disc? One side is hollow while the other is filled on these brakes.

If it's a single piston caliper, the disc floats.

Does it look like the piston is missing on the side that the brake cable goes into though?

That's not a cable.
That's your brake line the fluid travels in from the master cylinder.
And yes, there's usually a piston on that side.
Did you look at the brake parts list on the BIZ site for parts other than pads?
While the pads look like they'll fit, your caliper doesn't look like either caliper they show.

This is the caliper for their "corporate" (concession) kart.
You may have an older version.
The only other caliper they show is the Kelgate racing caliper which you definitely don't have.

The shipping price from the United Kingdom is about 70$ plus the cost of a new brake pad and piston is it just worth it to buy new brakes,
Can you suggest some that would mount correctly to my kart?
The rotor width is .3125 in

Measure center to center of the mounting holes in your caliper and go from there.
Any caliper that utilizes a single line from the master cylinder to the caliper and bolts up should work.
MCP makes a good two piston caliper for under $100, or you could look for a good used one.
BTW, I wasn't suggesting you run out and buy a new caliper, only that maybe BIZ could tell you what you need to fix yours and where to get parts if they no longer carry them.
While we're at it - does you master cylinder work?

The master cylinder does work, but none of mcps brakes fit a .3125 wide rotor. Biz hasent responded yet.

Well, as it's 10:30 pm in England they probably won't be responding for a while.
MCP makes a caliper for a .250 rotor that takes spacers.
That ones about $120 plus about $20 for the spacers.
Or you could see about making spacers for the cheaper one.
Or you could get their m.cyl - caliper - rotor - hub kit for under $200...but it won't fit your metric axle.

When I bought the frame it seemed like a great deal for 200$ Bc of how much their new ones sell for. Now it doesn’t seem that way anymore.
