Go Kart and your neighborhood?

Love this forum, finally got my Go Kart running thanks to a lot of help from you guys.

Ran it for a few hours around my neighborhood this past Saturday. Had the most fun I have had on 4 wheels since the first time I ran my car at Road America! I am in love! Have to still get used to handling for more spirited turns but wasn’t driving it too crazy. Did see 47mph! Was pretty impressed.

I live in a suburb outside of Chicago within in a subdivision, my biggest worry was people wouldn’t like some guy riding this loud thing around but found the exact opposite reaction. People seem to love this thing lol. I have never gotten more waves and smiles from strangers.

What type of area do you guys live in and how do your neighbors feel about karts?

I live in a rural area. Atvs are legal, not sure on kart specifics and don't really care the cops don't bother us or hardly ever out here. You might have a different case living in town lol. Drawback were all gravel but sure fun sliding around and I always favored dirt tracks when I raced in my really early days. If I drive at night I'll only go when were in packs. These roads seem endless, we end up miles from home. Which is another bad idea to do alone. I have a pact with the 15 yo kid that lives couple miles away. One of us breaks down and were home we have to go help. So far he's making out lol. He's nuts, modded 750 Kawi 4 wheeler, super fast motorcross bike, drives like a bat out of ****. No accidents, was born driving them. I hear him flying by at 1am lol. Don't ask about his parents. I grew up the same way. We do favor our atvs, beer coolers and guns here. The karts are just a sidekick.

I like your kart. Simple frame, turf savers....those are the best karts imo.

I pulled into a gas station and I just got a few wierd looks. I mostly ride mine behind an old abandoned school that shut down many years ago. Nobody bothers me there.

Oh yeah, my neighbors are mostly like minded. Almost everyone has an atv but I'm the only nut with karts and they're always a hit when I show up on one.

Yeah, the general public in my area is ok, with them but not thrilled. Tell any of my friends that I'm taking one over to the school and they are already out of the driveway waiting by the time I get there. If you see one, ok. If you get to ride it, well that's a different story .

When I pass people on my my minibike I wave and usually get a bunch of smiles. It is loud and I try not to ride when kids of getting off school busses or too late or too early. I only go fast if I don't see people out and about. Most of the time people will tell me it sounds like it's running good. The place where I lived previously had a field across the street with power lines and a bike path running through it. The neighborhood used the Power company's land for dirt bikes, rc cars, snowmobiles, buggy's, scooters, sledding, 4-wheeling,... It wasn't huge, but it was big enough to have fun. Some people rode on the bike path, which went to a lake. I didn't want to mess up being able to use the field so I tried to stay off the path and never had an issue with the police.

I live outside the limits of Chicago, but could throw a rock into Chicago from where I live.
The neighborhood of Chicago I neighbor is full of police and firefighters. To work for CPD of CFD, you must live in the City limits. This neighborhood is probably one of the safest in Chicago. My biggest issue is stops signs every block.

Thank you, this Kart is a popular design in the Chicagoland area Craigslist world. I purchased from a guy in Indiana who bought it from a shop “on Archer in Chicago” , just today I finally discovers what it actually is. Not my Pic, found on Craigslist ad a few hours ago... it’s a............ BRAT!

Here's my main squeeze. I couldn't find one I liked at the time of wanting one. It started out as the orange kiddie kart with cage. Problem was I couldn't fit in it. Did a lot of hacking and extended the length by 6" now it's perfect.

I have a few that call the cops. But we know the cop that shows up. Lol. But we been good as long as we don’t over do it. Now my new go kart that makes 200+hp and has dragster zoomie style exhaust might be a little different. Hahaha.

My neighborhood is a mixed bag. There's some people who think it's sweet and don't mind at all, as long as I'm not out there making noise at unreasonable hours.

There are others who will call the police station non-emergency line if they even see me working on it out in the driveway, since working on vehiles outside your garage is a violation of the HOA bylaws. They have been reprimanded for that, since police aren't there to enforce HOA bylaws. Nobody complains when I work on my truck out there either, so they're just picking on the go kart. No real issues with it overall though, but I do try to do most of my riding elsewhere, mostly because lapping the subdivision is pretty boring after 1 or 2 times around.

Lol - last time I rode my kart around the block, there was a cop parked under a shade tree. He didn't give me a ticket, but very strongly suggested I find a better place to ride...

I searched & found a couple large parking lots to ride, but soon discovered i soon got bored riding my kart around all by myself. So I posted some free ads in my local craigslist; seeking other guys with karts and asking if they'd found any cool places to ride/race their karts.

I ended up getting serveral replies and hooked up with 3 different & very cool locations where a bunch of guys all meet-up every week to ride and/or race their karts together.

And that was WAY more fun than just riding around my neighborhood ~

Recently learned these Karts were built in th Chicago originally. I see a bunch of them on Craigslist in my area. Pretty popular design around here.

A couple of folks smiled at first, but that didn't last long. That my be due to that I am located in the east (DC and Baltimore) and folks aren't as friendly IMHO than most places.
