You may have to reinforce the frame to handle that extreme jump in power. Also, you will need a new clutch because the 390 will have a 1" PTO and will need a high quality clutch to hold up well.

I would picture a drift kart to be a radically overpowered, live-axle, on-road machine.

To the OP-

Redsox pretty much has it- reinforcements and either a new clutch or cvt (costly). It's probably worth mentioning that the existing engine mount would have to be modified or maybe even a new one fabricated. I believe the footprint of the bigger engines is not the same as the small ones, and even if it were, the PTO is likely to end up in the wrong place due to the physically larger dimensions.

I don't think I'd consider the above kart "old".

The frame will most likely not be able to properly accommodate those larger tires and may need to be modified for that larger engine. Do your research, lots of research, before you sink money into a race frame.

The footprint is quite a bit bigger on the GX390 than the GX160/200.
the clutch is very very very expensive as well.. say $100 at the least, AND I think you'd need a bigger chain.
So.. to put on a GX390, you need to relocate the engine mount, possibly a new chain, maybe some reinforcements to the frame, and a clutch. around $140 to 300?

A GX390 is INSANE. you would have SO MUCH FUN on that with a 390... if your axle didn't brake.. :D

Hey try sniffing out some karts from race tracks. You can find some mechanics there that can help you with your problem. Got some help from k1speed florida branch lately since I bought an electric kart. I hope they too can help. They specialist in electric karts.
